"Mike McDaniel Doesn't Play": Browns Fans Gets Honest Over Head Coach Hiring
The Cleveland Browns are considering Mike McDaniel as their new head coach after the Dolphins fired him. What do the fans think?
A guest on Cleveland's Talking Heads talked about the former Dolphins head coach. Spoiler: He had nothing but praise for McDaniel.
"Andrew Berry is very good at coming out and saying nothing in a 20 minute span...Mike McDaniel doesn't play that game. Mike McDaniel will tell you what's on his mind at any given point. And in a way that's actually, actually give you some information."
He then continued to say, "I love the mind that is Mike McDaniel. I would head over heels, love him as offensive coordinator." What works in favor of the Browns and McDaniel is that they have worked together before in an offensive position.
In 2014, he served as the wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns under head coach Mike Pettine. During that year, he worked with players like Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel, helping quarterback Brian Hoyer to his only 3,000‑yard passing season.
His offense uses pre-snap motion to read defenses, create favorable matchups, and disguise play intentions. Plus, a key element of McDaniel’s offensive philosophy is the ability to threaten defenses both horizontally and vertically.
His run game is deceptively potent, often featuring zone blocking schemes that allow for cutback lanes and explosive runs. While being the HC of the Dolphins, Mike McDaniel also called the offensive plays.
Miami produced top 10 offenses in its first two seasons as head coach, ranking sixth in total offense with an average of 364.5 yards per game in 2022 and first with 401.3 yards per game in 2023.
Is Mike McDaniel the head coach material
The fan talked about this on the radio show as well. "I still think he's an interesting offensive coach, and I wouldn't mind if they don't get John Harbaugh, which doesn't sound like that's going to be the case, but you never know. If they don't promote Jim Schwartz for whatever reason," he said.
The Browns are consistently in pursuit of John Harbaugh, someone who has won a Super Bowl. He was also born in Cleveland and grew up among hardcore Browns fans. While he can be a great choice, insider reports suggest that he is leaning towards the Giants.
The Browns have also interviewed Jim Schwartz. Cleveland's defense has been among the best over the past few seasons since Schwartz has been thier defensiove corrdinator.
He also has HC experience from his time with the Lions, so he is a good choice as well. Other than these, the team has also interviewed Todd Monken, Aden Durde, Dan Pitcher, and Tommy Rees.
What do you think about Mike McDaniel? Would you take him ahead of these if the Browns fail to land Harbaugh and do not promote Schwartz?
