Micah Parson Decision Continues to Haunt Jerry Jones as Jon Hamm Takes Sly Dig at Cowboys Owner
The Micah Parsons-Jerry Jones saga keeps on getting more interesting.
Before the 2025 season had begun, the Cowboys' owner had traded Parsons to the Packers. This was a move that many have not been a fan of, and it came back to haunt Jones at the NFL honors.
"Incredible performance, way more convincing than when he said it was a good idea to trade Micah Parsons. Micah's here also tonight, he consulted on that joke, so thank you Micah, well done, well done sir," host Jon Hamm said.
When Micah Parons was with the Browns, he recorded 172 solo tackles, 84 assists, 52.5 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries in 63 games. This performance did not dip as he had 19 solo tackles, 22 assists, and 12.5 sacks in 14 games for the Packers this season.
And Hamm isn't the only one who has criticized the Dallas Cowboys owner over this trade. “Feels like a win for Green Bay as odds are that they will pick late,’’ one NFC GM said.
He continued, "It seems like two second-rounders and a solid interior player (Kenny Clark). Huge character risk bringing someone in that you don’t really know and making him your highest-paid player.’’ So what went wrong between them?
The Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons Drama
Micah Parsons was on a 4-year rookie contract worth about $17 million (fully guaranteed) with the Cowboys, and Dallas picked up his fifth-year option for 2025 at roughly $21 million. Jerry Jones wanted to keep him for the next season, but Parsons reportedly wanted more money.
Jones tried to negotiate details directly with Parsons instead of working through his agent, which Parsons (and his camp) strongly objected to. In August 2025, Parsons publicly requested a trade out of Dallas, openly frustrated that talks with the Cowboys went nowhere.
"I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.” He wrote, and about a month later, Dallas traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers
