Matthew Stafford gets honest about Ty Simpson after initial frustration rumors
The Los Angeles Rams' veteran QB Matthew Stafford is coming off the best season of his career.
So when the Rams decided to select a developmental quarterback with the No. 13 pick in the Alabama rookie Ty Simpson, the rumors of his frustration came to light.
Stafford made an appearance on the Green Light With Chris Long podcast to talk about these rumors.
"Hopefully, he comes away with a guy who treated him the right way, showed him what it was about, what it's like to be a true professional, and also be yourself," Stafford told Long via Green Light. "I'm not some robot out there.….. And if he gathers information and he learns from that along the way, I'm fired up for our team, because that's going to make us better."

Ty Simpson has said publicly that Stafford is like a big brother to him and that he is always available to answer questions.
"Anything that I can ask him, and I can just take in, I'm willing to," Simpson said as reported by the Los Angeles Times journalist, Gary Klein. "So I hope I'm not annoying him, but I really appreciate the 'big brother' kind of role that he's playing in my development."
His appreciation is reflected in Stafford's 2025 stats. 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and a first-team AP All-Pro. It left no doubt whose team it is.
Former quarterback and analyst Chris Simms thought it was a questionable move to spend a top-15 pick on a backup during a Super Bowl window for the Rams.
"He hasn't played a ton of football. That would be the other thing that concerns me... a little undersized, which I don't love," he stated on his show, Chris Simms Unbuttoned. "And now he's not going to get any more experience sitting behind Matthew Stafford."
At his post-Day 1 press conference, the Rams' head coach McVay, appeared downcast, igniting more rumors of internal discord. That has since been attributed to McVay keeping the focus on Stafford.
The Rams moved to avoid the situation and extended Stafford through 2027 shortly after, McVay confirmed, calling Stafford before the pick was turned in.
Matthew Stafford is open to playing into his 40s after talks with Tom Brady
This stability hasn't prevented Stafford from considering his own timeline, with the help of a quarterback with the longest career in the league.
He spoke about this on the Green Light With Chris Long Podcast.
"I talked to [Brady] a little bit, I've talked to Drew Brees a little bit about it as well. It is year-to-year because I think it's fair to the team, I think it's fair to me, and my family," Stafford said on the Green Light Podcast. "I don't want to sit there and say, OK, 24 months from now, I've got to be ready to play another football season."
The New England Patriots legend, Brady, has had one of the longest-ever NFL careers. He played 20 seasons with the New England side and his last two with the Buccaneers.
With a total of 649 touchdowns for 89,214 passing yards, Brady has won 7 Super Bowls.
In 2026, Stafford will enter his 18th NFL season. After winning the MVP award, leaving young guys like Josh Allen and Drake Maye behind, the veteran is showing no signs of stopping now.
Rams fans, what do you think about the decision to extend Stafford's contract? Let us know in the comments!
