Marcus Freeman Linked with Browns as Notre Dame HC Reportedly in Line for Kevin Stefanski's Job

The Cleveland Browns have been struggling this season, sitting at a disappointing 3-9 record after 12 games. Their defense remains strong, but their offense has faltered, plagued by bad calls. Take the calls coach Kevin Stefanski made at the 49ers game, which led to a fumble and a 49ers touchdown.

Besides the criticism, there are now indications that the Browns could show Stefanski the door after this season. With the Browns virtually out of the playoff picture, there's barely any time left. And now, Notre Dame's HC has also joined the picture.

Kevin Stefanski in Trouble

39-year-old Freeman has led Notre Dame to a 10-game win streak. While the team did lose the CFP title last year to Ohio State, Freeman is 43-12 at Notre Dame. He is also 5-2 in bowls, with three wins last year. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network wrote on November 19 that Freeman's resume is attracting a lot of eyeballs.

“NFL teams, including the Bears last year, have inquired about Freeman in recent years amidst his meteoric rise in coaching... He’s an engaging presence who will win the interview if and when he’s willing to take one," Pelissero said.

However, that wasn't the end of Pelissero's praise for Freeman. "from his first [graduate assistant] job at his alma mater (Ohio State) in 2010 to his appointment as head coach of one of college football’s most iconic programs (Notre Dame) 11 years later," he added. Meanwhile, Kevin Stefanski can't seem to catch a break.

Browns Insider’s Harsh Outlook

Stefanski's Browns look like last year's bad 3-14 team. His record with the Browns continues to go downhill as he stands at 43-53 in six years. The dominant 24-10 win against the Raiders looked like a turning point, with Shedeur Sanders also shining. However, hope soon turned into disappointment against the 49ers.

After the loss, ESPN Cleveland's Tony Rizzo lost his cool on Monday: “Folks, I’m going to tell you something right now. I know owners of sports teams who would have fired these people on the spot yesterday. Enough. Enough of this," the insider said after the Browns blew a game they were initially leading.

“How in the hell does Stefanski have a job? … I’m done with everybody,” he added. So, it's safe to say Kevin Stefanski is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Yet, what do you believe? Will someone like Marcus Freeman take over after yet another losing season for Cleveland? Tell us in the comments.
