Major Turmoil Surrounding Kevin Stefanski as Browns HC Linked with Multiple Jobs

Dec 4, 2025, 3:00 AM CUT

Kevin Stefanski’s 2025 season with the Browns is not looking good at all, with a 3-9 record and 4th place in the AFC North Division. With Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry leading the charge, the Browns are on the verge of completing a fourth losing season in five years.

Not to mention the $230m deal of Deshaun Watson was their craft, the worst trade in NFL history. Rumors have it that his time with the Brown's might be up soon, but he shouldn’t worry about his next job.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler cleared the air regarding Stefanski’s future if he is fired as the Browns' head coach. "Stefanski's future comes up often in my conversations with people in the league due to the Browns' 6-23 record the past two seasons. Another reason his name comes up: Several executives and coaches I've spoken to believe he'd be a prime candidate for a head coaching job elsewhere should Cleveland move on after the season,” Fowler wrote.

Stefanski was first hired as the Browns’ head coach in 2020 under a 5-year contract. On June 5, 2024, the Browns announced they signed Stefanski (and GM Andrew Berry) to contract extensions, but if they let him go right now, he has the demand in the market, and that is because the man is not just the coach who has led the Browns to a 6-23 record.

Kevin Stefanski has built an impressive resume as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He is a two-time NFL Coach of the Year (2020 and 2023) and played a major role in lifting the franchise out of a long slump. In his first season, he led the Browns to their first playoff appearance since 2002 and their first playoff win since 1994.

Under his leadership, the team produced multiple 11-win seasons, making him the first Browns coach since the 1999 reboot to achieve more than one winning season. He also helped transform the team’s home-field performance, highlighted by an 8-1 home record in 2023, the best in franchise history.

Like one AFC executive said of Stefanski, "He's a good coach, experienced, two-time Coach of the Year - Cleveland is a hard place to win, he might need a fresh start elsewhere.” He has a record that could very easily guarantee him a next job, though the big question would be where?

Where could we see Kevin Stefanski if the Browns fire him?

As of right now, if Kevin Stefanski is removed from his position as Browns HC, it would be the Tennessee Titans or the New York Giants where he could end up. The Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start, while the Giants followed by dismissing Brian Daboll after beginning the season 2-8.

Both teams are currently using interim head coaches while they search for permanent replacements, and Stefanski could be exactly that. But the doors do not just close there; he could always pull off a Mike Vrabel, who sat out of the coaching business for a year and then wrote what would go down as one of the biggest comebacks.

Vrabel served as head coach of the Tennessee Titans for six seasons (2018-2023). However, after a 6-11 record in 2023 and back-to-back losing seasons, the Titans decided to part ways with him. He was officially fired in January 2024. Rather than immediately land another head-coaching job, Vrabel spent the 2024 season out of a full-time HC role.

And now that he is back, he has led the Patriots to an 11-2 record and is the top guy for the coach of the year award. Kevin Stefanski can do exactly that if the Browns part ways with him, but it also depends on his viability and whether he is simply burned out and needs a year or not.
