Major Stat Exposes Jalen Hurts and Eagles Offensive Woes Against 49ers in Playoffs
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles suffered in the 23-19 loss to the 49ers, and it was a retelling of their entire season.
Going up against San Francisco 49ers at the Lincoln Financial Field, Hurts made just 14 air yards for his team throughout the game. Compared to Hurts, the 49ers’ wide receiver Jauan Jennings' single pass completion was greater than the Eagles' complete running yards.
Running back Christian McCaffrey took advantage of a trick play as Jennings threw a 29-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. The ball traveled for 26 yards, making it the most air yards for a pass of the game.

Apart from Jennings, quarterback Brock Purdy made 16-yard throws four times, marginally lower, but they count. Despite Hurts' 20 out of 35 passing attempts completed for 168 yards and one touchdown, his passing yards were limited to 4.8 on average.
They ended the season at 23rd in passing yard rankings because of 194.3 average passing yards per game, with their total offense ranking at 24th for gaining only 311.2 yards per game.
It's not affecting Hurts at all. “Failure has to be used as a source of pain to go take that next step and there’s always learning opportunities in everything. It’s human nature to be ignited by the shortcomings. It’s just a natural thing.”
And Jalen Hurts Has a Reason for the Confidence
With Jalen Hurts struggling to some extent, Saquon Barkley took up the mantle. He made 106 yards on 20+ carries. And Hurts was all for it.
"He’s been paired with a great group in front of him. He’s been able to take us to the next level in many ways, take our running game to the next level in many ways. And he’s been able to do really big, big things.”
The Eagles couldn’t take flight this season. And is a good time for Hurts and the offense to reinvent themselves.
