Amidst all the chaos with rumors of Kevin Stefanski being fired next season, the debate between Sanders, Gabriel, and Watson, the Cleveland Browns might have a fresh problem. There have been major reports that the Browns' OC, Tommy Rees, might be on his way out.

As per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com Rees had interviewed for another position. However, the Browns want to keep him with the team.

"The Browns will make every effort to keep offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who interviewed for the Penn State head coaching job, a league source told cleveland.com."

Instead, it will be Matt Campbell who becomes the head coach of Penn State Football. But that's not all. While Tommy Rees interviewed for the position, his mind is set on staying in Cleveland.

"It’s Rees’ preference to remain with the Browns, a source said, even though he’ll likely get more opportunities in the coming weeks and months."

It may not be a surprise for some fans. Rees grew up around the Browns while his father, Bill Rees, served as the team’s director of player personnel from 2004 to 08. As a teenager, Tommy worked as a ball boy, shagging Phil Dawson’s kicks, catching for quarterbacks, and helping in the equipment room.

Ever since then, Rees has become a favorite among Browns staff. Just see what Browns receivers coach Chad O’Shea had to say about him.

“I mean, I’ve been fortunate to be around a lot of good coaches, but Tommy is just very impressive as an offensive coordinator.” He called him intelligent, great communicator and a “tremendous leader”.

And he's not alone.

The Cleveland Browns staff has nothing but good words for Rees

When Rees was promoted to OC, HC Kevin Stefanski said, “He is extremely bright and has been around the game his entire life. Before joining our staff, he established himself as one of the top assistant coaches in college football. Last season, he transitioned into our tight end room and with our pass game, and he didn't miss a beat.”

Bringing college experience from his time as OC and QC at both Notre Dame and Alabama, Rees brought out good performance from Browns’ tight ends in 2024. And his work as offensive coordinator is getting more praise.

Offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren said, “His ability to really process protection and any potential issues, his ability to see things from a run blocking, a leverage standpoint, the creativity he has in the game plan, those are the things that come up meeting to meeting.”
