Major Blow for Browns Ahead of Bills Clash as Star Player Placed on IR with Concussion

Another injury has come for the Cleveland Browns, dismantling their game plan. Jack Conklin, their right tackle, remains on injured reserve ahead of the Week 16 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Conklin suffered from a concussion against the San Fransico 49ers in Week 14 and is out for the season.

The 31-year-old is unfit to play for the remaining three matchups of the 2025 season. He played eight times this season and will be replaced by K.T. Leveston against the Bills. That upcoming matchup will be Leveston’s fifth start of this season. He is most likely to sub for Conklin against the Steelers and Bengals, too.

Conklin is the third Browns tackle to be injured this season. Edward Jones, who had recently undergone surgery for his right shoulder, suffered from a knee and hamstring avulsion. At the same time, center Ethan Pocic ruptured his Achilles tendon. With Conklin out, the line has lost all its original starters.

Previous injuries

Conklin has struggled with injuries since 2021. In November 2021, he dealt with a season-ending torn patella. He was out for the 2023 season after suffering from a torn ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus in week 1.

After reconstruction surgery, he resumed practice in 2024 and played 12 games. Conklin has missed 41 out of around 101 games across his tenure with the Browns. This season, he missed two games due to an elbow injury and had a concussion in October. After the week 14 game concussion, he would have missed five more games.

Mike Bloomgren, Browns’ offensive coordinator, called this year the most difficult of his coaching career. The plethora of injuries has left him and the players to keep pushing.

“This has been the most challenging year of my coaching career, quite frankly.”

“Has not been easy, a lot of change going on around the room. But again, these guys do step up and they keep fighting,” he spoke to the press before practice on Saturday.

Bloomgren also shed light on Levenson’s growth this year.

“We think back early in the season where some of the silent count was really getting him and he wasn’t able to really do his job.”

Except for Jones, the contracts of the other linemen will come to an end, and the Browns' management must find reliable and healthy players to rebuild the team.
