“Lot of Free Russell Money”: Broncos Star Expect Splurging Spree Over Russell Wilson Free Agency

After losing the AFC Championship Game to the New England Patriots, many Broncos players are set to head into free agency. Among those, a linebacker made an amusing joke about the Broncos freeing up cap space.

As the franchise finally recovered from Russell’s expenses, the remaining core players are expecting increased monetary attention from them.

Linebacker Alex Singleton, in a Monday interview with the Denver Post, discussed his plans for free agency and joked about the Broncos having deep pockets.

"We have a lot of free Russell money, right? I’ll take $35 million a year," Singleton joked during his interview with the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel.

Letting go of Russell Wilson in 2024 cost the Denver Broncos a hefty $85 million, to be exact. However, with cap space set to free up, the team is expected to pick up new talent.

Singleton, an important linebacker for the Broncos, is one of the many players set to hit free agency. After battling testicular cancer, the 32-year-old recorded 1 sack and 1 forced fumble, totaling 135 tackles this season.

Another linebacker, Justin Strnad, is following Singleton into the market and made his desire to remain a starter clear.

The Franchise Needs to Spend to Build a Stronger Offence

Defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers, who scored 7.5 sacks and 12 solo tackles, is expected to be paid more by another team.

The Broncos are also vying to bring back 25-year-old Ja’Quan McMillian, who contributed two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 40 solo tackles for the Broncos’ defense.

Meanwhile, Garett Bolles stated that the Broncos, with head coach Sean Payton and star quarterback Bo Nix, have become a hotspot for new and incoming talent.

“People want to come to Denver,” Bolles said. “I mean, I'll be shocked to see how many free agents want to come here. We got a young team. We got a quarterback. We got the best O-line in football. I don't care what anyone says. We do," he added.

At present, the team has only $1.218 million “in dead money this offseason.” However, with Russell Wilson's dead cap hit finally off the books, Over The Cap estimated the Broncos to have $27 million in cap space. How well they use it is another question.
