Los Angeles Rams Reportedly Planning Big Move Over Controversial Call Against Seahawks
The Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks had one of the best rivalries in the 2025 NFL season. They were head-to-head in three games and did not come out without controversy.
Sam Darnold's Seahawks even eliminated the Rams from the playoffs by defeating them in the NFC Championship game. But now the Rams are reportedly planning a move over the most controversial play in their 2025 rivalry as per NFL Journalist Dov Kleiman.
"Wow: The Rams plan to propose a rule change to address the Seahawks' 2-point conversion in Week 16. If this call had gone in the Rams' way, they likely would have won the Super Bowl instead of the Seahawks. One of the most controversial calls in NFL history."
On Thursday Night Football in Week 16 vs. the Los Angeles Rams, the Seahawks were trying to tie the game 30-30 late in the 4th quarter. Sam Darnold attempted a 2-point conversion pass intended for running back Zach Charbonnet, but it deflected off a Rams defender and fell toward the end zone. This is where it gets interesting.
Officials initially ruled the play an incomplete pass, which would have ended the conversion attempt. After review, they determined the quarterback had thrown the ball backward, making it a live lateral. Charbonnet recovered it in the end zone, and officials awarded the Seahawks two points.
This tied the game, eventually forcing overtime, where the Seahawks won 38-37. "To be honest with you, I just want to know that rule. I thought on plays like that. Two-point plays, inside of two minutes, I didn't think you are allowed to advance a fumble … obviously, I don't know the rule enough," Matthew Stafford said after the game, and he wasn't alone.
"I have quite never seen anything like that in the 2-point conversion. Where you are lined up to kick off, then they say it's a fumble because they had the clear and obvious recovery. Now, you tack it on and make it a 30-30 game. Very interesting. I didn't get a clear explanation of everything that went on because of the timing of it," Sean McVay said.
The Seahawks and Los Angeles Rivalry was Intense in 2025
This rivalry got up to personal levels. "I got like a disdain in my heart for them. Like, I hate them. I don't like the Seahawks at all. There's nothing I like about them. I don't like their players. There's nobody I like about their staff. I don't like them." Rams star Jared Verse said for the Seahawks.
Verse had 3 solo tackles, 4 assists, and 0.5 sacks in 2 games against the Seahawks in 2025. Puca Nacua posted on X, "😂 sam darnold" during the Super Bowl game. He had 19 catches for 300 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in 2 regular-season games against the Seahawks.
Then, in a recent interview, he was also asked about the team he feels most fired up against."I don't like giving the Seahawks any motivation. They're not that good, actually." But he also confessed that he was trash-talking and said, "Maybe it is the Seahawks. I don't like the color red either. But I do like Fred Warner."
