Latest Update On QB Confirms Browns Are Done Holding Themselves Back
The Cleveland Browns have yet to declare their starting quarterback for the season. But the latest admission from an insider has stated that this season’s starting QB would have to fulfill expectations.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns' only goal for this season is to win, and they will send in the QB who will score the most.
“I definitely think that the compass for this football team this year, in terms of the quarterback situation, is going to be who gives them the best chance to win football games,” she said via the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, per an X post by Browns Nation.
After picking Taylen Green in the 2026 draft, the Browns have a crowded four-QB room. Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are competing for the QB1 position with no end in sight.
After scoring just 279 points overall and 27 touchdowns with three different starters, the Browns are still evaluating their options and brought in Green, a dual-threat QB, for backup.
“With Green on board, those two (Green and Dillion Gabriel) will essentially vie for the developmental spot, while Watson and Sanders battle for the starting job,” Cabot wrote in a report published on April 27.
The Browns had a 5-12 record last season and 4-13 the year before.
Ranking at the bottom of the AFC North surely disappointed the franchise because Cabot revealed what is not the Browns' list of pressing priorities.
Cabot stated, “Nobody has the stomach for trying to see if you can get a high enough draft pick to get your hands on an Arch Manning, Dante Moore, or a LaNorris Sellers. The only thing this town and this team have an appetite for anymore right now is winning.”
The quarterbacks are at the center of this franchise shift. But so far, the hassle around it has certainly created pressure.
Pressure Mounting on Andrew Berry and Todd Monken
If the Browns fail to improve themselves this year, even with a new offense, then two people would be answerable first: General Manager Andrew Berry and head coach Todd Monken.
Fox Sports NFL reporter Henry McKenna opined that these two could find themselves on “the chopping block.”
“The Browns can’t really afford to tank, not with GM Andrew Berry and head coach Todd Monken on hot seats,” McKenna said. “Yeah, that’s right, they could both get fired.”
Unlike former head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was hired in the same year as him, Berry has gotten by after a 5-12 record last season. But McKenna is skeptical for a second time as well.
Will they fare well or not is to be seen, but the pressure is surely mounting.
