Latest Insider Reports Hint That Browns Might Not Be Interested In 3000+ Yards QB

As the 2026 draft is approaching, spectators are waiting to see whether the Cleveland Browns pick a new quarterback. And more importantly, who would it be?

According to an insider, the franchise might not be interested in a round one quarterback prospect, Ty Simpson.

On Wednesday, in an X post, Sleeper Browns reported that the Browns delegation was absent from the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Pro Day. It also implies that the franchise did not witness the program’s star quarterback, Ty Simpson, in action during his athleticism tests.

“The Browns are not in attendance for Alabama's pro day to watch potential 1st round QB Ty Simpson per @MaryKayCabot,” the post read.

The Alabama Pro Day is the annual scouting event at the University of Alabama where draft prospects showcase their skills. Unfortunately for Simpson, the University of Ohio also scheduled its pro day on Wednesday, too. The good news is that no big-name Browns showed up there either.

But their absence does send a message.

Simpson is touted as the player who has the potential to end the franchise’s long-drawn-out quarterback crisis.

His collegiate performance does build a strong case. In 2025 alone, he scored 28 touchdowns for 3,567 yards and was intercepted five times. He ranks 20th with a quarterback ranking (QBR) of 76.0.

With his performance last year, he raised the Crimson Tide’s rank from 17th in 2024 to 9th in 2025 in the overall AP Top 25 standings.

So, What Is Simpson’s Standing in the Browns Quarterback Dilemma?

Ty Simpson wasn't the one to shy away from stating his desire to wear the Browns jersey. Mostly because he shares a rapport with their head coach, Todd Monken. And it was later revealed that the Browns like him, too.

Earlier this week, insider Mary Kay Cabot reported the Browns’ impression of the 23-year-old.

“It remains to be seen if they like him enough to take him in the first round, where he’s likely to go.” And it appears that Simpson and his yardage might be enough.

Reports suggest that general manager Andrew Berry and Monken have picked a different path to scouting this season. The two have heavily relied on the “Top 30” visits from serious prospects.

Moreover, Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado quarterback drafted in 2025, seems to be the forerunner for the starting position between himself and Deshaun Watson.

After two consecutive abysmal records and the most frustrating quarterback situation, the Browns are determined to make the right choice this time around. Even if it was unpredictable.
