Lamar Jackson Left Fuming After Ravens QB Suffers Another Back Injury

Dec 24, 2025, 10:02 AM CUT

Although Lamar Jackson hopes to return to play against the Green Bay Packers in Week 17, the chances of it happening are slim.

The two-time MVP had an unceremonious exit during Sunday’s match against the New England Patriots when he sustained a back injury.

According to ESPN, the Ravens quarterback was kneed in the “lower left side” by Patriots safety Craig Woodson in the second quarter, with 1:56 left

Speaking to reporters post-game, Lamar shared he was upset he had to leave after the injury that occurred in the red zone.

“My knees, my legs felt great tonight,” he started.

“Just got a knee in the back in the red zone. Just couldn't finish the game. I was trying to control all shots and stuff like that, but it still ain’t getting no better.”

From the third quarter, backup Tyler Huntley replaced Jackson. If the Ravens want to fight for a playoff spot after losing 24-28 on Sunday night, they need Jackson back on the field.

Another Injury for Jackson

When asked about his injury-plagued season, where “this stuff keeps happening,” Jackson said, “Yeah I mean, yes bro, I can’t control that.”

The 28-year-old had already missed three games this season. In Week 4, Jackson sustained a hamstring injury while fighting for the division lead in the AFC North against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jackson returned in Week 9 to play against the Dolphins, but has sustained more injuries in his knee, toe, and ankle.

Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh called Jackson’s back injury “a bruise of some kind” and stated he does not know how serious it is.

“I don't know how serious it'll be. We’ll have to find out over the next couple of days.”

Jackson, who attempted to return to the game, revealed that he was in pain when he tried to throw at a trainer.

“I'm mad because I felt like the game was in our favor,” Jackson said.

Playoff Hopes

The Ravens, 7-,8, face the threat of elimination from playoff contention if they lose to the Packers on Saturday. Jackson said they are determined to fight despite this setback.

“When I am on the ground, I’m down. I gave myself up, and I got kneed in the back. We’re fighting for a chance to make the playoffs.”

If Jackson fails to come back, Huntley is set to make his second start of the season.
