Kevin Stefanski Provides Fresh Update on Browns' QB Ahead of Steelers Clash

The Browns have already been eliminated from playoff contention with a poor 3-12 record. With the AFC North leader, the Pittsburgh Steelers, up next, Kevin Stefanski’s troubles keep mounting.

Without playing much last week against the Bills, the Browns QB Dillon Gabriel has suffered an injury and is now questionable to play against Pittsburgh. In his press conference, Stefanski noted the player was dealing with soreness but offered little detail.

“Yeah, soreness popped up,” Kevin Stefanski told the press.

The 24-year-old QB did get a chance to play against the Bills last week, after starting QB Sanders suffered a finger injury. However, Gabriel got sacked on his only play and was replaced again by Sanders.

Gabriel has only played 10 games this season, scoring 7 touchdowns for 937 yards. However, he also got sacked 19 times. Ultimately, the Browns replaced him with fellow rookie QB, Shedeur Sanders.

Unfortunately, Gabriel isn't the only one questionable for Sunday's game. Rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr., CB Myles Harden, DT Sam Kamara, RB Dylan Sampson, and guard Wyatt Teller are also listed as questionable. Meanwhile, TE David Njoku and LB Winston Reid have already been ruled out.

Dillon Gabriel’s future looks uncertain with the Browns

The Cleveland Browns expected a lot from Dillon Gabriel this season. However, it has gone horribly, as after multiple poor performances, Shedeur Sanders has taken his spot as a starting signal-caller.

With head coach Stefanski deciding to start Sanders in the remaining matches, Gabriel might’ve played his last game for the Browns. The Athletic's Zac Jackson has predicted that Cleveland might trade Gabriel for a late-round pick.

“He was over-drafted and shouldn’t be in the team’s plans except as a potential future backup option. Maybe the Browns will choose that route in 2026, or they’ll try to trade Gabriel for a late-round pick to another team seeking a backup,” said Johnson.

Deshaun Watson is also expected to return in 2026, meaning if the Browns don't trade him, then he'll most likely be relegated to a backup role. However, only time will tell exactly how things play out for the QB.
