Kevin Stefanski Might Have Some More Bad News For Cleveland Browns Despite Firing

Weeks after taking over play-calling in Cleveland, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees might drop his head-coaching opportunity to look elsewhere.

In her X post on Saturday, Browns’ insider Mary Kay Cabot revealed that Tommy Rees, the team’s offensive coordinator, might leave and follow Stefanski to a new team.

“Hearing that #Browns OC Tommy Rees might have a chance to join Kevin Stefanski wherever he goes. Stefanski is getting a 2nd interview today with the #Falcons.”

Rees joined the Browns as their pass game specialist in 2024 and was later moved to the offensive coordinator position in 2025. In his two years with the team, the 33-year-old unit coach shared play-calling duties with Stefanski.

This year, he took the responsibility completely mid-season through Week 8. Ever since then, the Browns have only had three games where they scored less than 10 points. He also showed good improvements with rookie Shedeur Sanders. Against the Tennessee Titans in Week 14, Sanders gave his season-best high pass of 364 yards and 3 touchdowns. From 2024's 15.2 PPG average, the number moved slightly to 16.4 in 2025.

But Will Staying Be The Smart Decision for Tommy Rees?

After it was announced that he and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz would be interviewed for the head coach position, some insiders said it was just a courtesy interview.

And according to Mary Kay Cabot, "My other little nugget today was the fact that I was told that Tommy, the Browns' offensive coordinator who was the first interview for this job, is not expected to get a second interview."

In such a case, Rees may just take the exit and reunite with Stefanski.
