Kevin Stefanski Maintains Silence Over Browns Future Amidst Piling Pressure
No one knows what Kevin Stefanski’s future with the Cleveland Browns looks like. Even though confusion and pressure are mounting, Stefanski has remained silent.
On Saturday, NFL reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero looked over the Browns’ performances and speculated where the head coach stands.
They maintained that “the Browns know Stefanski can coach, and he has maintained a consistent approach amid the adversity of a transition year with a young roster.
"But the hard reality is the Browns are 6-25 over the past two seasons, putting everything up for evaluation.”
Apart from Stefanski's procedural faults, there are many reasons the Browns performed poorly. Injured veterans, bad trades, and the lack of a reliable quarterback have contributed to poor results.
But he is the same coach who pushed the Browns into the playoffs twice and won the Coach of the Year twice. Once in 2020 and again in 2023. Will the ownership consider past success and give him another chance?
On 15 December, during press availability, Stefanski did not clarify if he had had any talks with the team’s ownership over the matter. “I don't get into those type of things…” Stefanski said. “I'm not going to get into those type of things. Not my focus.”
Stefanski is on thin ice
Earlier this year, in July, Jimmy Haslam, the Browns’ owner, stated that the three wins do not make a successful year.
“Everybody: coaches, players, personnel, ownership all know that 3-14 won't cut it.” The Browns stand at 3-11.
According to reports, Haslam is most likely to make his intention clear around 5 January, and Stefanski is not the only one whose future is in jeopardy. General manager Andrew Berry and special team coordinator Bubba Ventrone are also under fire.
What’s next for Stefanski?
Which team could benefit if Stefanski leaves the Browns after six years? Dan Orlovsky, an ESPN analyst, reported he could go to the Giants.
“The No. 1 name that I would pay attention to if I were the Giants is what happens in Cleveland with Kevin Stefanski. If I could hand-pick a guy, it would be Stefanski. He’s an outstanding coach.”
Until there is no clarity from Stefanski or Haslam, the Browns are left to focus on their upcoming matchup and prepare for the next season.
