Kevin Stefanski Breaks Down Shedeur Sanders' Skills Following Defeat to Bills

Shedeur Sanders has had hit-and-miss performances since debuting against the Ravens in Week 11. His every play is scrutinized because he is partially responsible for how the 3-12 Browns have fared since he got bumped to the starting QB in Week 12.

But the 23-year-old received praise from his head coach, Kevin Stefanski, for how he handled himself against the Bills recently.

“I think every one of these games are different in how you have to play the position and what the defense is giving you,” Stefanski said on a Zoom call, Monday.

Shedeur Sanders contributed one touchdown in a close 20-23 matchup against the Bills on Sunday. Although he was intercepted twice and covered only 157 yards, Stefanski pointed out his improved completion rate.

Out of 29 attempts, Sanders completed 20, making up for 69%. Ahead of the Week 14 matchup and with many key players out with injuries, Sanders had expressed that his focus lay on improving his passing attempts.

“I just got to get more completions,” Shedeur Sanders said in a Wednesday press conference.

“And even whenever we’re down or anything, I can’t press, you know, I just gotta remain having those mental notes to myself. Just work within the game and just keep driving the ball, get first downs," Shedeur Sanders added.

This game marked his most successful completion rate this season and a marginal improvement compared to his 25% start. Unlike in the matchup against the Bears, Sanders couldn’t make a complete deep throw. The most he managed was 20 yards in the air.

Stefanski acknowledged that every game differs and complimented Shedeur Sanders for making the calls he did.

“It's so different week to week,” he said.

“I thought he made really good decisions throughout the game. You're going to have your plays that there's throws down the field, and if they're not there, you check it down, and you can make good yards. So I thought by and large, good decisions," Coach Stefanski said as per the Akron Beacon Journal.

The Sunday game caught attention for another ‘controversial’ call. Stefanski made a fourth-down call that backfired when Greg Rousseau tracked down the quarterback and sacked him.

When asked about how he felt about his coach’s decision, Sanders replied, “I know you can’t be asking me that question, man.”

The matchup against the Bills might have criplled the Browns with Quinshon Jedkins’ injury in their fourth consecutive loss, but at least Shedeur Sanders has bettered himself.
