KC Concepcion’s Major Red Flag Still an Alarming Concern for Browns Ahead of OTA
Ever since his name was called on the first day of this year’s draft, KC Conception’s drop rate has remained a topic of discussion. The wide receiver promised improvement, but the latest report suggests otherwise.
“(Concepcion will) need to work on his hands. We have seen him drop a few passes in the limited time we’ve had to watch practice. At the end of Wednesday’s practice, he was unable to haul in a nicely thrown deep ball from Deshaun Watson,” Browns’ reporter Dan Labbe wrote.
Over the three years of his college career, Concepcion made 185 receptions, receiving 2,218 yards, and scored 25 touchdowns. He also recorded 70 carries for 431 rushing yards. However, his drop rate remains a major eyesore.
According to The Huddle, Concepcion recorded a 9.3% drop rate on 294 career targets. They are divided into 11.7% in 2024 and 10.3% in 2025. Yet, the Browns drafted him as the 24th overall pick this year.
An improvement in Concepcion’s drop rate is high up on the Browns’ list of priorities. After all, the 21-year-old has joined a wide receiver room that was remarked as one of the poorest-performing ones in 2025.
In his ESPN ranking, Bill Barnwell placed the Browns at No.29. While discussing Jerry Jeudy, the franchise’s leading wide receiver last season, he highlighted the same issue as Concepcion: drops.
“Drops are perennially a concern for him -- and running the second-most routes of any wideout over that stretch helped -- but his 2.4 yards per route run over those final 10 games was good enough to rank 21st among all wide receivers,” he wrote on July 8.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Browns recorded 27 drops, and nine from Jeudy.
The 27-year-old made 50 receptions for 602 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. Cedric Tillman followed with 21 receptions for 270 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Browns’ offense ranked 30th overall with 262.1 yards per game.
As the pressure to do better than the 5-12 season mounts, Concepcion has once again reassured that he’s working on his shortcomings.
“Nonstop”: KC Conception Reflects On His Scope Of Improvement
KC Concepcion played for the Texas Aggies in the last season of his collegiate career. While he recorded 919 receiving yards from 61 receptions, he also logged 10.3% drop rate.
Currently, the Browns OTAs are in full swing, but Concepcion has been working on himself even before he was drafted.
“After the season, I worked nonstop at it. I knew that, you know, that I have had some coverage and drops. So back in the season, off-season, during the season, I am going to work nonstop to fix that,” he said, per a May 24 Heavy article.
Concepcion, who was pictured in the No.1 jersey earlier this month, is expected to “contribute immediately,” according to Browns insiders.
“The Browns’ organizational philosophy on first-round picks is pretty well established at this point: if you trust a player enough to take him in the Top 25, you trust him enough to play,” the Orange and Brown Talk podcast opined on May 21.
There are high expectations of Concepcion, and it is indicated that the Browns believe he can fulfill them. Do you think he can do it?
