Josh Allen Reportedly Done with Bills as Franchise QB Left in Dark Over Major Decision
The Buffalo Bills have already fired their HC, Sean McDermott. Now, questions are being raised about Josh Allen's future.
But we are dealing with multiple reports here, when it comes to Allen's stance on the same. While some suggest his overall disappointment with the situation, others state that he is holding onto his faith in the Bills. Maybe it's both. Let us weigh in.
Is Josh Allen not happy?
The franchise quarterback is reportedly not happy with Terry Pegula and the way he's taking the team. NFL and NY Giants Insider, Wesley Steinberg, reported the news on January 21st. This comes after the team ownership kept him in the dark over the firing of McDermott.
"I just got a text that #Bills QB Josh Allen has lost faith in ownership and direction of the franchise," he posted on X.
Bills' owner Terry Pegula said that the team's QB did not play any role in deciding if the head coach should go or stay. "I didn't talk to Josh about this. I talked to him afterwards. That conversation will stay private, but he had no input," the 74-year-old said in a press conference.
Since his NFL debut in 2018, Josh Allen has played under only one head coach. McDermott guided him right from his rookie years to his current stance among the NFL elites. So would it not have been a smart choice to inform the star QB before making the consequential decision?
McDermott was a big reason why Josh Allen went from a passer rating of 67.9 with 2,074 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 12 games in his rookie season to winning the MVP for the 2024 season.
While Allen has not publicly reacted to the firing, he is grateful to the coach for their 8 years, as per Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.
What does this mean for the future of Allen and Bills together?
At least at the same time, Skurski reported that Allen continues to trust the leadership.
Skurski noted, "Allen, I'm told, has faith in the leadership of the team under Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane and will take an active role in participating in the upcoming head-coaching interviews."
Meanwhile, the team is apparently also taking his input on the next head coach.
Josh Allen Has a Role in Deciding the Next Head Coach of the Bills
President of Football Operations/General Manager Brandon Beane has begun the Bills' head coach search. Though the team owner and GM have said that it is a collaborative effort, and Josh Allne will be a part of it.
"The starting quarterback will be part of the team to help select a new coach. He's going to be working with us," Pegula said. Anything else, his feelings I want to keep that private … This was my decision … his personal opinion, I keep personal."
The latter part of Pegula's statement does hint that Allen is not very happy with Sean McDermott's firing.
As of now, the team has interviewed Joe Brady for the head coach role. Who do you think will be the new HC for the Buffalo Bills?
