Jonathan Owens Opens Up About Frightening Robbery Scare in Milan
Chicago Bears’ safety Jonathan Owens otherwise peaceful weekend in Milan came to an abrupt halt when he was almost robbed. The 30-year-old shared his experience on X, stating he was fine and even poked fun at the robber.
“Not somebody just tried to snatch my shopping bag in Milan, force of habit i had it tied around my hand so he couldn’t get it and took off running immediately….but still crazy,” he shared on Sunday.
Owens, who is married to Olympic medalist gymnast Simone Biles, was attending the 2026 Winter Olympics hosted in Italy with her. The couple later went shopping when the alleged robbery occurred.
He shared that the thief attempted to snatch his shopping bag but failed since Owens had wrapped the bag’s straps around his wrists.
Owens reassured fans that there was no harm or damage, but he was caught off guard.
A fan asked Owens if the robber was fast and whether he took him down, to which he replied: “Not fast at all bro, his arms were moving faster than his legs lol. Should’ve seen his face once he realized i turned around and he couldn’t grab it.”
The Robbery was just a minor hitch in Owens’ offseason
“Honestly bro it was hilarious how slow he started running away once he saw he couldn’t grab it out of my hand,” he added.
When another fan suggested that Owens should’ve chased and tackle the robber, Owens laughed it off by saying that the robber was hilariously slow for him to attack. And maybe it was for the best that Owens did not catch hold of the robber.
Afterall, Owens is a pro football player who has made 295 tackles in seven seasons. He has been playing for the Bears since 2024 and made 49 tackles, one forced fumble across 17 games that season.
The 2025 season was disappointing compared to the previous one, as Owens recorded only 19 tackles and made no sacks or forced fumbles.
And in the NFC Wildcard Playoff against the Green Bay Packers, he made one solo tackle. The Bears lost the game 31-27.
Owens and the Bears ended the 2025 season with an 11-6 record and ranked 1st in the NFC North.
