Joe Burrow Addresses Facing Myles Garrett Against Potential Record-Setting Bengals Matchup

Joe Burrow did not shy away from talking about his game against Myles Garrett, who closed in on history. The Bengals quarterback spoke calmly about the moment and his approach entering the matchup.

Myles Garrett enters the game with 22 sacks, one shy of the single-season record. With the milestone looming, Burrow was asked directly how much the record would influence his decisions under pressure during the game.

He told the media, “I’m not gonna go out of my way to not let him get the record… I’m gonna go play football. There are going to be situations where a sack is the best of the bad outcomes of that play.”

Burrow’s statement made his position clear. He will not force throws, scramble recklessly, or change timing to avoid Garrett. Each play will be handled as it develops, even if that means absorbing a sack.

Garrett’s pursuit of the sack record naturally brings comparisons to previous holders. Michael Strahan’s 22.5-sack season in 2001 remains debated because Brett Favre went down early on the final sack, costing Mark Gastineau his long-held mark.

Garrett’s Record Chase and Historical Weight

This season adds another layer to the discussion. Garrett has played in an expanded schedule, while Strahan reached 22.5 sacks in 16 games. T.J. Watt later matched the total in just 15 games, tightening historical comparisons.

For Cleveland, Garrett’s dominance has stood out during a difficult year. The Browns sit at 4–12, with playoff hopes long gone.

Burrow enters the matchup understanding the challenge. He will accept sacks when protection fails and take chances only when openings appear. The focus remains decision-making, not record management.

If Garrett breaks the record, it will come through normal play. No adjustments. Just pressure meeting execution in a game where both sides stay true to their roles.
