Jimmy Haslam Might Have to Fire Andrew Berry to Convince John Harbaugh

Andrew Berry may have saved himself while Kevin Stefanski got axed, but it may not last too long.

Browns expert Tony Grossi discussed John Harbaugh's requirements to be interested in his Browns HC job, and Berry was not a part of it.

"I talked to a league insider who speculates on what he's heard about Harbaugh's prerequisites to even be interested in your job. 20 million a year. 10 million dollar assistant coach budget.Total authority over the roster. And also would like to select his own guy to lean on personnel guy."

The $20 million will be a big step up as his Ravens' contract had him earn roughly half that amount. We could also see the $10 million for the staff be used to bring in Ted Monken, who's currently at the Ravens.

More importantly, while Berry did a decent job last year, there's no telling how the Browns will do this year in the draft. Despite clear offensive line requirements, Berry insisted on another QB for the team.

Will Haslam do it? Well, the former Ravens head coach led the team to 12 playoff berths in 18 seasons, Super Bowl XLVII, and six AFC North division championships. Plus, he is among the few NFL coaches to win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons.

This is supported by NFL Insider Dan Labbe, who said, "The big thing is, we know this: Jimmy Haslam is not afraid to spend money. They could have John Harbaugh come in, and he could offer him a Jon Gruden-style contract that he signed with the Raiders, which I think was 10 years, $100 million. Jimmy could offer that."

John Harbaugh is also looking to work with the Browns

Sources say the former Ravens head coach plans to wait until next week before taking any interviews. In the meantime, he was quickly contacted by several teams, receiving multiple calls within about 45 minutes of being fired.

According to insiders, the Browns were among those teams, and now Mary Kay Cabot, a prominent Browns journalist, said in a report:

"He’s (John Harbaugh) believed to have a legitimate interest in coaching the Browns, even with the uncertain quarterback situation and looming rebuild of the offense."
