Jerry Jones’ relationship with Deion Sanders could see Shedeur Sanders walking out of Cleveland

Fresh trade speculation has surrounded Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. And thanks to Dallas Cowboys' GM Jerry Jones' decades-long bond with Deion Sanders, one analyst sees Dallas as an obvious landing spot for the young QB.

PFSN's Cooper Kleinberg recently named several possible landing spots for Sanders, with the Cowboys at the forefront.

"[Jerry] Jones could acquire Sanders for relatively cheap and give him the opportunity to develop behind Dak Prescott as the team’s long-term backup," Kleinberg wrote on July 1.

Shedeur Sanders answers media questions at the end of the Browns mini camp in Berea on April 21, 2026.

It must be noted that Jerry Jones shares a very close relationship with the Cowboys Hall of Famer and Ring of Honour member Deion Sanders, making Dallas a more natural landing spot for his son, Shedeur.

Furthermore, per PFSN analyst Kleinberg's July 1 report, the Cowboys' history of gambling on high-profile quarterbacks like Trey Lance and Joe Milton III has yet to pay off. That makes Sanders a compelling candidate to become Jerry Jones' next offseason swing.

Kleinberg believes Sanders would be the perfect backup to assist Dak Prescott in Dallas. However, the Cowboys may not be the best fit from a football perspective, since he likely wouldn't have an opportunity to start any games.

Prescott is already established as the team's starter, and Sanders might not get much attention this year. However, if Dallas were to acquire him, it could develop him as a future franchise quarterback, considering the fact that Prescott is in his mid-30s.

While the trade rumours continue to make noise, an insider has stepped forward to cut through the speculation, saying the Browns are unlikely to trade him at this point.

The quarterback battle between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson is in full swing, with both continuing to practice even during the break. And according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the trade rumors surrounding Sanders are no more than baseless speculation.

"Anything out there about like they’re looking to trade him, I would put zero stock in that,” Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show on June 24.

Although the 2025 season was turbulent for Sanders, he remains Cleveland's most intriguing quarterback. His seven touchdown passes flashed his upside, but 10 interceptions exposed his limitations.

“If I were sitting here right now, June 24, and had to make an educated guess, I’d say he and Deshaun Watson are both on the team in September, and quite possibly both play," added Pelissero.

On top of that, Sanders gives the Browns a younger option as Watson enters his 30s.

Do you think a move to Dallas would benefit Shedeur Sanders? Let us know in the comments.
