Jarvis Landry Backs Shedeur Sanders As QB1 Days After Kevin Stefanski Rant

Kevin Stefanski’s tumultuous stint as the Cleveland Browns’ head coach is making headlines again. After sharing locker room dynamics that were unheard of before, Jarvis Landry has made another bold statement, but about Shedeur Sanders this time.

In a Thursday X post, Browns Nation reported that Landry, a former Browns wide receiver, backed Sanders and called him a “baller.”

“I think Shedeur [Sanders] has the talent. I think he's a baller. He can really get his guys involved.”

Landry also took a subtle dig at Stefanski’s coaching in the 2025 season, stating that the Browns should focus on utilizing his strengths instead of replacing him.

“It's really just more of putting the pieces together in a way that they play to his strengths. I don't know if they did that enough last year. This year would be a good indication of hopefully he can make that leap. Shedeur has the gifts. I don't think they take another quarterback,” Landry said on his podcast 4th and South.

The Browns’ frustrating QB dilemma is testing everybody’s patience, especially Sanders. It is not difficult to see why Landry thinks the Browns did Sanders dirty.

The 24-year-old showed flashes of brilliance, with his 52-yard deep throw to Quinshon Judkins that awed the likes of Myles Garrett. And his three-touchdown performance against the Tennessee Titans. Meanwhile, wide receivers and offensive linemen were below par. Stefanski made headlines for preferring Dillon Gabriel and his bad play calls.

Gabriel completed 59.5 percent of his passes, threw seven touchdowns and two interceptions for 937 yards. Meanwhile, Sanders also threw seven touchdowns for 1,400 yards but was intercepted 10 times for a completion rate of 75.9 percent.

The Browns ended the 2025 season with a 5-12 record, just a notch above the humiliating 4-13 in 2024. And their quarterback crisis has gotten murkier.

At present, Sanders appears to be the forerunner for the starting quarterback position. The other options are Deshaun Watson, who has played 19 games in the last four years. And Dillon Gabriel, who is deeply unpopular among fans and was booed.

Alabama’s Ty Simpson is a round one prospect, but management has sent mixed signals about him.

Landry on Stefanski Losing Connection With Players and Giving Call Duties

Last week, Landry stirred controversy after revealing that Stefanski stopped making calls way before the media was informed. He said that Alex Van Pelt, a former offensive coordinator, quietly took over before Ken Dorsey did in 2024.

“I know when I was there for 100% fact, when we were struggling as an offense, I know Kevin Stefanski himself gave up playcalling to AVP,” he said.

Landry, who last played with the Browns in 2021, said that the Browns started losing when the connection between the players and the coach disappeared.

“It just kind of felt like the spark between the connection between the players and the coach just kind of started to dim out,” he said.

But above the shortcomings, Stefanski was a successful coach. The Browns have reached the playoffs only three times, and Stefanski pushed them twice. Once in 2020 and then in 2023, the same years he won AP Coach of the Year.

Todd Monken, the former offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, has replaced Stefanski and praised Sanders. Whether this duo fares well in the upcoming season remains to be seen. What are your thoughts?
