“I don’t have a dog in this fight” Tom Brady Ditches New England Patriots Ahead of Super Bowl
The New England Patriots have reached the Super Bowl after quite some time, finally ending a dry spell. While fans are beaming with joy, former star quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t share their excitement.
In an episode of Let’s Go! Podcast, Brady shared that he is rooting for neither the Patriots nor the Seattle Seahawks. But he praised head coach Mike Vrabel and the players who trusted him.
“I don’t have a dog in this fight,” Brady opened up.
“May the best team win. And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime, all the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position.”
The Patriots last appeared in and won the 2019 Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams in a 3-13 game. But it's been seven long years since that.
Moreover, when Vrabel was handed the franchise, the Patriots were at their lowest, with only eight wins in two seasons.
But within a year, the Head coach of the nominee and quarterback Drake Maye orchestrated a complete turnaround with a 14-3 season.
The duo is following the Brady-Belichick footsteps, aiming to restore the Patriots' former glory, as Brady pointed out.
“We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back, and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England,” he further added.
After Major Fallout, The Patriots Are Making a Comeback at Last
With unprecedented success over 20 years, the Patriots were one of the biggest dynasties in the league with Brady at the center. But after soaring so high for so long, they fell face-first when former head coach Bill Belichick and Brady had a major, irreversible disagreement.
The friction between the two caused him to walk out in 2020 after winning their sixth and last championship together.
Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won with them in 2021. But Belichick eventually parted ways with the franchise in 2024 after many disappointing seasons, which followed Brady’s exit.
It’s been years, and he recently came to support Belichick over his Hall of Fame snub, but it seems as if Brady still doesn’t want to bridge the gap between him and his former franchise. Yet, he has solid advice for Maye, who is making a major career move early on.
“I’ve met Tom a few times, and one of the best things that he has said is: there are no shortcuts to it. There are no shortcuts to putting in the work,” 23-year-old Maye said on the Super Bowl Opening Night.
The Patriots go head-to-head against the Seahawks on February 8 in Super Bowl LX. Do you think they will claim the Lombardi Trophy this time?
