“Hired the Wrong Coach”: Cleveland Browns Fans Left Fuming Post Jim Schwartz’s Departure

The Cleveland Browns have hired Todd Monken, and it’s safe to say not everyone is happy with the decision. Now, a rumor about defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has become reality.

Schwartz just stepped down from the position, and it became clear that the 59-year-old felt he was passed over as the head coach candidate.

Following his resignation, the team released an official statement. "Yesterday, Jim Schwartz submitted his letter of resignation as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns. We'd like to thank Jim for his contributions to our organization over the last three seasons," read the official statement.

"Our search for a new defensive coordinator will begin immediately," they added.

Schwartz joined the Browns three years ago and was under contract through 2026. Although he was considered for the head coaching position after Kevin Stefanski, Schwartz was frustrated about the fact that Cleveland chose Monken over him.

The Baltimore native played a big hand in the Browns’ defensive success. Despite finishing at the bottom of the AFC North with a disappointing 5-12 record, they ranked fourth in total yardage allowed per game with 283.6.

Myles Garrett became Defensive Player of the Year, breaking the single-season sack record with 23 sacks.

Monken, the new HC, took a dig at Schwartz during his first press conference. "We’re gonna keep the same system. … I didn’t take this job because of Jim Schwartz.”

Browns Fans Aren’t Happy With Jim Schwartz Leaving

A fan straight up said this about Monken, "Hired the wrong coach. Monken will be terrible."

Another fan blamed the Browns' owner, Jimmy Haslam, for Jim Schwartz's departure. He said, "Jimmy Haslam is a dysfunctional owner. The 27 year tank is still on!"

It's why a fan said, "My team is ran by a bunch of idiots supported by the local media."

Some Cleveland fans were shattered by the decision and expected another disappointing season. "Good job browns. 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. AGAIN Enjoy a middle-of-the-road offense and defense, and another bottom finish in the north."
