Good News for Shedeur Sanders as Dolphins Save QB From Embarrassment With $67.5 Million Move

Shedeur Sanders' road to QB1 might be safe for now. A surprising $67.5 million move by the Miami Dolphins has removed a contender for the spot.

Ever since the 2025 season ended, the debate about Sanders' spot in the upcoming 2026 season has raged. With rumors of the Browns looking to add yet another QB to the roster, Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis was a big name in the contention.

Thankfully for the Browns' rookie Willis has signed with the Miami Dolphins in the 2026 NFL Free Agency. He has agreed to a 3-year, $67.5 million deal with $45 million guaranteed, according to reports.

However, Brown's reporter, Mary Kay Cabot, revealed he was someone the team was looking at after the combine.

"Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis and Alabama’s Ty Simpson are among the external quarterbacks on the Browns’ radar with the NFL Combine kicking off Tuesday and free agency starting in two weeks,” she wrote.

Willis was originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 3rd round (86th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. After his 2 season as the backup QB, the Titans traded him to the Packers in 2024. His role also didn't change as he served as the backup.

In all his seasons, he has thrown for 1,322 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Dolphins QB has completed 105 of his 155 passes and thrown only 3 interceptions in 22 games. The Dolphins released Tua Tagovailoa and picked him up for 2026.

Shedeur Sanders’ Way to QB1 May Not Be Clear Yet

While Willis is out of the picture, the 2026 NFL draft is yet to come. Simpson's family and the Browns' head coach, Todd Monken, also share a connection.

“I think I’d be in great hands with the team that they have and the organization, and then coach Monken, what he does with the quarterbacks and the offense is super quarterback-friendly," Ty Simpson said at this year's NFL Combine.

"I think he’s going to coach me hard if I’m able to go there, and I know he’s going to do it the right way. So I’m super-excited," he added to the prospect.

Ty Simpson finished his college career at the Alabama Crimson Tide, completing 334 of 523 passes (63.9%) for 3,948 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 31 games. Do you think the Browns can use him to replace Shedeur Sanders?
