Giants Legend Gets Honest Over Kevin Stefanski Hiring as New York Eye Ex-Browns Head Coach

While an interview has reportedly been scheduled with former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, the New York Giants are looking for an offense-oriented head coach.

Stefanski seems to be the right fit, not only given his background, but also because he has the support of a former Giants quarterback.

In an episode of Up and Adams, Phil Simms made his opinion clear on the move. He said that Stefanski would elevate any talented quarterback and make overall improvements across the unit.

“He’s unbelievable,” Simms said. “He’s the guy if you’re a quarterback and you’ve got some talent. If you get Kevin Stefanski as your head coach or offensive coordinator, it doesn’t matter. You’ve got a chance to be really good.

The Giants have struggled to develop quarterbacks and cannot afford to waste away rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Stefanski makes up for a good mentor as he focuses on personalizing these strategies for his players. He is known for being “rooted in structure and communication,” according to Ellis Williams of PFSN.

Stefanski has spent 13 years with the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 to 2019. He operated as the offensive coordinator in the last two seasons before leaving to coach the Browns in 2020.

Stephen A Smith Called Out Stefanski

Stefanski led the franchise into the playoffs twice in 2020 and 2023, twice in just four years.

However, his last season tallied at 8-26 in his career record of 45 wins and 56 losses. Although it was reported that Stefanski was against the Deshaun Watson trade, according to CBS

While many of Stefanski’s shortcomings weren’t his fault, sports commentator Stephen A Smith recently called him out for going through so many quarterbacks.

“When you're 8-26 over the last two years, and you got 13 quarterbacks over the last six [years], and you can't seem to find anything offensively that works when offense is supposed to be your background? That's a problem,” he critiqued.

Should the Giants look into what Stephen is insinuating? Will Stefanski find more success and control as a head coach here?
