From Garrett to McCaffrey, NFL Stars Chase History in the Final Weeks of 2025
“It's always been in reach,” is what Myles Garrett had to say when he was asked about the record he has been chasing for 17 weeks now.
The Browns’ star and defensive end has a record 22 sacks this season and needs one more to surpass the NFL record for most sacks by a player in a season. First made by Michael Strahan in 2001 and later matched by T.J. Watt in 2021. They currently share the record after making 22.5 sacks in their respective years.
With Week 18 and the last matchup of this season approaching, Garrett has one chance left. And yet, he was neither under pressure nor worried. In a press session before the Steelers’ game, Garrett said he will make it happen.
“Pressure? Nah, no pressure. Like I said, it’s going down,” he stated. “So, I’m not stressed or worried about whether I’m going to get it. Just a matter of when.”
But He’s Not the Only One Who Has Fans and Critics on Their Toes
The 2025 season has been witness to some incredible plays and campaigns - personal or otherwise.
While Garrett is chasing a personal sack record, the Denver Broncos displayed a team effort in sacking their opponents.
Los Angeles- Most Sacks By a Franchise
The Broncos stand at 64 and are just behind the record for most sacks by a team in a season by the Chicago Bears. In 1984, they counted 72 sacks and have had none since. But if the Broncos win against the Los Angeles Chargers this coming weekend, they will be the new record holders.
Trey McBride- most receptions by a tight end
The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Bengals on Sunday, but Trey McBride made 10 receptions in the game for a record 119 this season. He surpassed Zach Ertz’s record of 116 catches in a season, set in 2018 when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Christian McCaffrey- multiple records
The 49ers running back shared the record for 1000 rushing and receiving yards, making him one of the only three players to have done that. He shared that record with Roger Craig and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk in 2019. With 110 more yards flung by Week 18, he would become the only player to achieve this more than once.
He’d need an even 159 in the last game to top Faulk’s mark (1,048) in the Super Bowl era, which began in 1966.
McCaffrey has made 890 rushing yards this season. If he can rush for 159 more, he will surpass Faulk’s record of 1,048.
Josh Allen- most rushing TDs in a season
Buffalo Bills stars and reigning MVP made 15 rushing touchdowns in 2023. On Sunday, he tallied at 14 and needs two more to surpass his record, which he shared with Jalen Hunt of the Eagles.
