FOX Sports Insider Reveals Surprising Update on Andrew Berry & Todd Monken’s Future
The Cleveland Browns are having a tough offseason, with NFL insiders sharing tidbits each day. With the hiring of new head coach, Todd Monken, in January, expectations were high for the team, especially for GM Andrew Berry.
Now, with quarterback buzz and salary cap issues prevailing, NFL reporter Henry McKenna says that Monken and Berry’s future is at stake.
“The Browns can’t really afford to tank, not with GM Andrew Berry and head coach Todd Monken on hot seats,” wrote Henry McKenna, NFL reporter. “Yeah, that’s right, they could both get fired.”

“Monken hasn’t coached a single down yet, but the Browns struggled to attract a top candidate in the 2026 hiring cycle, mainly because of the team’s salary cap issues and quarterback issues, which all tie back to Watson,” Henry McKenna further added.
Todd Monken, who was hired in January, was formerly the OC of the Baltimore Ravens for three seasons. Under his direction, the Ravens’ offense was in the top 10 for both the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Currently, he’s navigating the intense QB1 competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, while the team and fans await his official decision.
Zac Wassink, sports news writer, reports that Monken plans to have Watson as the starter one last time instead of Sanders, as the team plans to move on from Watson in the next season.
However, Watson’s controversial contract in 2022 gives him a guaranteed $230 million. Berry, the team's GM since 2020, ultimately bears responsibility for that contract.
The Browns are dealing with a tricky situation at hand. Watson’s contract keeps their cap space limited and makes them forego better options for trade.
Additionally, Watson has made a comeback to the field after missing the entire 2025 season due to an injury. His performance needs to improve to justify his huge paycheck.
The 2026 season is going to define the Browns’ future. If it’s a losing season, then Jimmy Haslam (co-owner of the Browns) might part ways with Todd Monken and Andrew Berry.
The next steps for the Browns at the 2027 NFL Draft
“If they have a strong, young team with a high draft pick in QB-rich 2027 draft, the Browns could hire a big-name coach or hot coordinator prospect,” McKenna says at the end.
McKenna views the 2027 Draft class to be QB-rich with the likes of Arch Manning, CJ Carr, Dante Moore and more.
He believes that with Watson’s departure, the cap space would be larger and the Browns can finally land a worthy QB during the 2027 Draft. They would also be able to bring in the best coach for more wins.
But for now, either Watson or Sanders will have to bring in impressive numbers to keep Monken’s and, most likely, Berry’s tenure continuing with the Browns.
