Shedeur Sanders could get his chance with the Cleveland Browns much sooner than expected, according to former Super Bowl winner Kurt Warner.

The Browns selected Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but the rookie enters the season behind Deshaun Watson. Warner believes that could change quickly if Watson struggles early.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Kurt Warner explained why he believes Shedeur Sanders could take over the Browns' starting job as early as Week 3.

“If I got to go Week 3, I'm gonna go Shedeur. Two games on the road. Coming back to Cleveland after everything that's gone down with Deshaun. If things don't go well early, I think they could make a change that quickly in the season.”

Warner also wants Cleveland to find out what Sanders can offer before next year's quarterback class arrives. He believes an early opportunity could help determine whether Sanders deserves a longer-term role.

Kurt Warner remains unconvinced that Deshaun Watson could turn his situation around.

The winner of the '99 Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams pointed to Watson's struggles seeing the field and playing effectively since arriving in Cleveland:

“You know, I've talked about his lack of ability to see the field and play the game has been glaring since he's been in Cleveland, and I just don't know how that's going to change.”

Kurt Warner also saw similar issues during the preseason. Those concerns could open the door for Shedeur Sanders if Watson fails to deliver early.
