Former Browns Star Joel Bitonio Labelled Missing Piece in Super Bowl Contender’s Offense
The Buffalo Bills made some changes to their offensive line, but lost a key starter in the process. David Edwards, who was their guard for two seasons, left in free agency and signed with the New Orleans Saints.
The Bills have enough room now to bring in a new addition to protect their QB, Josh Allen. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox shared his prediction about the Bills signing former guard of the Browns, Joel Bitonio, who also recently hit free agency.
“The Buffalo Bills face uncertainty at left guard after David Edwards departed for the New Orleans Saints in free agency,” wrote Knox. “They may look to replace Edwards through a camp competition involving Alec Anderson and Austin Corbett. However, scooping up free agent Joel Bitonio might make such a competition moot.”
Knox further added that Bitonio’s age could be a concern for the team, but he’s a seven-time Pro Bowler who started all 17 Browns games in the past season. He might not be the long-term answer, but he could deliver a quality start in the 2026 season.
Dan Orlovsky already believes Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have enough talent to finally win a Super Bowl, calling Allen an MVP-level quarterback and the roster complete enough for a serious title run.
Now, the possibility of adding veteran lineman Joel Bitonio could give Buffalo another massive boost in its push toward the franchise’s first-ever Lombardi Trophy.

Aaron Schatz of ESPN voiced the same opinion.
“If the Bills want to add one more veteran free agent who can play left guard, a great option would be Joel Bitonio, who spent his entire career in Cleveland and might be willing to sign for less money with an opportunity to pursue a Super Bowl title in Buffalo,” Schatz said.
Per Nate Lunak of Athlon Sports, Bitonio spent 12 seasons with the Browns from 2014 to 2025. He was the second-round pick at the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the Pro Bowler for seven seasons straight from 2018 to 2024 and was named the First-Team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022.
PFF reported that Bitonio ranked 8th amongst 81 offensive guards with a pass-blocking grade of 75.7. Lunak projected Bitonio to sign a one-year $12.9 million contract with the Bills if everything works out. If not, an NFL reporter has another team in mind for Bitonio.
Joel Bitonio’s Second Landing Spot
Ben Arthur of Fox Sports identified the Atlanta Falcons as a potential landing spot for Bitonio. The added benefit is that he would be rejoining Kevin Stefanski, the former head coach of the Browns and the current head coach of the Falcons.
Arthur further added that the 34-year-old can also join Bill Callahan, the former offensive line coach for the Browns, who’s now in the same position with the Falcons.
Bitonio could add to the depth chart on the offensive line, which already has starting guards in place with Chris Lindstrom and Matthew Bergeron.
With familiar faces already in Atlanta, Bitonio could find himself in an ideal situation with the Falcons.
Many NFL insiders are touting the Buffalo Bills to be the best spot, given their Super Bowl dream. Now it’s up to Bitonio to make the final call should he decide to continue his NFL career.
