Many experts have weighed in on the Browns' struggles under Kevin Stefanski since 2024. As rumors of the team replacing the former coach of the year after this season have picked up, a former Browns QB believes he has the right candidate to replace Stefanski.

In an episode of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, Former NFL star Brian Hoyer opined that the Browns need a new coach with an “alpha” presence.

He believes the team needs a reconstruction and to hire a coach who is more forthcoming than Stefanski. Hoyer said that Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator Brian Flores is the right man for the job.

“They need to find an alpha who is going to take the entire organization and make it his. Brian Flores is gonna come in, and he's not gonna take any s*** from anybody," said Hoyer.

However, that plan has only one problem, and the Vikings may not be keen to let Flores go. According to a report by Kevin Seifert for ESPN, Kevin O'Connell, the Vikings’ head coach, stated that Flores might not be leaving anytime soon.

“Based upon my dialogue with him, and obviously the enthusiasm and the want to for us to get something done, I don't [anticipate that],” O'Connell said on Monday. 

So, How Good Is Brian Flores?

Brian Flores joined the Vikings in 2023, and according to the official Vikings website, the team totalled 53 defensive takeaways in the first two years with Flores as their coach.

The Vikings limited their opponents to 96.1 rushing yards per game. That stat helped the Vikings become the third team with the fewest rushing yards allowed (per game) since 2023. The Vikings are behind the Detroit Lions (93.6) and the Baltimore Ravens (94.7).

The Vikings recorded 24 interceptions, the highest in the league in 2024, and 95 passes defended in the last season. Flores enabled an opponent scoring efficiency of 31.6 per cent, second-highest in the 2024 season, and recorded five opponent runs of at least 20 yards.

Flores contributed to a 14-3 regular-season record in 2024 and led the Vikings into the playoffs. It also earned him a nomination for the AP Assistant Coach of the Year.

Flores is a stark contrast to Kevin Stefanski's offense-heavy approach. During his six-year stint with the Browns, Stefanski has a career regular-season record of 44 wins and 56 losses, and a 1-2 postseason record. 

The Browns are amidst a whirlwind of confusion, opinions, and suggestions. With no clarity on whether Stefanski is actually leaving the Browns, only time will tell how this team moves forward.
