“Flabbergasts Me”: Joe Burrow Jumps Into Josh Allen Controversy Keeping 2-Year Hiatus Aside

After years spent away from X (formerly Twitter), Joe Burrow has decided to mark his return with a special take on Josh Allen's interception.
On X, he supported the officials' calls in both the Bills-Broncos and Rams-Bears games.
"The amount of ppl that don’t understand what a catch is in the rule book flabbergasts me," Burrow said in his first post since April 2024. "And it’s not the officials. The two plays yesterday were not difficult calls, and they got them both right."
The first incident happened in overtime, where Josh Allen’s pass meant for Brandin Cooks was intercepted by Ja’Quan McMillian. Although Cooks got the ball, the Broncos’ cornerback wrestled it away as they fell on the ground. The officials ultimately ruled it an interception. This decision was crucial, as Denver won the game with a field goal.
According to referee Carl Cheffers, "The receiver has to complete the process of a catch. He was going to the ground as part of the process of the catch and he lost possession of the ball when he hit the ground. The defender gain possession of it at that point. The defender is the one that completed the process of the catch, so the defender was awarded the ball."
Sean McDermott, however, wasn't happy. "It's hard for me to understand why it was ruled the way it was ruled. And if it is ruled that way, then why isn't it slowed down just to make sure that we have this right? That would have made a lot of sense to me ... because that's a pivotal point in the game."
A similar kind of incident occurred later when the Rams played the Bears. Except this time, the officials ruled a catch by the wide receiver Davante Adams.
Shannon Sharpe's take on the Decision
Legendary tight end Shannon Sharpe also weighed in on the controversy.
During a conversation with Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson on Night Cap, Sharpe claimed that the referee's decisions were absolutely spot on.
“Let me explain it to you, it's called the Calvin Johnson rule. If a receiver catches a football and he goes to the ground he must maintain possession of the football throughout the entirety of the catch."
And Ja'Quan McMillian stood his ground and claimed he got the ball in the end. “We were both fighting for the ball. I just made a play and basically took it out of his hands and came up with it.”
