5 Key Storylines to Watch Out for Ahead of the Cleveland Browns vs Buffalo Bills

Dec 20, 2025, 11:30 AM CUT

The Bills would be going up against the Browns at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at 1 p.m. ET. While the Browns look to find some redemption this season, it's the playoffs at stake for the Bills. Let's look at the biggest storylines from the game.

1 - Browns' defense vs Bills' rush game

The Bills are averaging 158.5 rushing yards per game, the highest in the league. On the flip side, the Browns have given 184 net rushing yards to the Titans in Week 14 and 142 net rushing yards to the Bears in Week 15. They have now allowed an average of 110.1 rushing yards per game.

It will be tough for them to stop the Bills. James Cook III will be the biggest challenge because he leads Buffalo with 271 carries for 1,415 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

2 - Myles Garrett has a shot at history

Myles Garrett is currently leading the season with 21.5 sacks, and in Sunday's game, he would have the opportunity to have the most sacks in a season by any player. T.J. Watts and Michael Strahan currently hold the record with 22.5 sacks.

3 - The Browns can utilize the run game to uplift the pass game

The Bills have allowed an average of 143.1 rushing yards per game, ranked 30th in the league. The Browns average 92.4 rushing yards per game, ranked 29th in the league. It is a tough play, but if they can create a balanced use of the run and pass game, they can create an advantage for QB Shedeur Sanders when the pass game opens.

Though there is one problem. The Bills allow the second-fewest passing yards per game at 169.5, which will affect Sanders' ability to move the ball downfield through the air.

4 - Holding back Josh Allen

Josh Allen leads the Bills after Cook in their run game with 98 carries for 535 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. This season, he has completed 284 of 406 passing attempts for 3,276 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Head Coach Kevin Stefanski has already warned that Allen can make throws on schedule and to all areas of the field, as well as off-schedule throws. But a few cards are playing in favor of the Cleveland Browns.

Their pass defense is the best in the league, as they allow the fewest passing yards per game at 169.1 yards. Plus, Josh Allen is the 6th most sacked QB of the season, 33 times, so Myles Garrett has a vulnerable prey.

5 - Harold Faninn Jr. can make Browns history

Harold Fannin Jr. has had 66 catches for 667 yards and has scored 4 touchdowns in 14 games this season. He is just one reception away from becoming the Browns' all-time rookie receptions leader.
