Fans React as the UFL Makes Decision NFL Is Afraid to Take

The UFL is doing something the NFL has avoided so far. They have officially banned the tush push short-yardage play for its 2026 season. The official report of the league said:

"The league has eliminated the Tush Push, a play in which after the quarterback takes the snap, he immediately drives forward as the offensive line surges and is assisted by additional players behind him who physically push him forward into the surging offensive line."

For those who might not know, tush push typically involves teammates pushing a quarterback forward after the snap to gain extra yards on a QB sneak.

Now the UFL has banned it as a part of a wide set of rule changes designed to reshape gameplay and strategy.

In the 2025 offseason, the Packers submitted a revised proposal to ban the tush push ahead of the NFL spring meetings. But no decision yet. "There's no team proposal that I've seen from it. So, I wouldn't envision it. But you never know." NFL competition committee co-chairman Rich McKay said.

Considering the UFL is a young league, hearing them do this, fans have made comments. "The NFL said we’ll tolerate it and the UFL said absolutely not lol" one read. For them to make such a bold move is a big thing because the NFL has yet to act on it.

NFL Fans React to UFL banning Tush Push

One fan said, "Jalen Hurts reading this like: 'They banning my signature move in the minors? Guess I'll stick to dominating the real league 😤🦅"

According to a 2025 report, 12 teams have scored touchdowns using the tush push since 2022, but there's one that has accounted for it the most. Philadelphia has run more tush pushes than any other team, 124 for 106 first downs and 33 touchdowns.

Another one also walked the same lines, saying, "LOL even the UFL is scared of jalen hurts."

However, fans had another point they tried to make. "Bro, the UFL’s move shows they’re listenin’ to the players. Eliminatin’ the Tush Push could make the game safer – good lookin’ out, UFL! 👍"

While there is a small degree of concern, as Sean Payton explained, if the NFL ever takes it out, it would not be for health and safety concerns, but to make the action more exciting, just as they did when changing the kick return rule.

Regardless, critics have argued that the tush push gives an unfair advantage and also raises safety concerns in short-yardage situations. "This is interesting about the Tush push ban by NFL, I wonder how things will work now," another fan said. That's the big question: Will the NFL ban the tush-push move?
