Fans make feelings clear as Shedeur Sanders names Cleveland his hometown

Shedeur Sanders may have been born in Texas, but his hometown is in the state of Ohio, according to him. Now, fans are making their feelings known. This week, that one line about where he’s really 'from' has caught everyone's attention.

The moment comes from a nighttime street video, originally recorded by X user TxCuteMom, that resurfaced when @jselvyjr reposted it on July 26, 2026, captioned "Bro said he from CLEVELAND!!!. "

"Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland, Ohio," Sanders said in the video when asked about where he was from.

The comment is interesting because Sanders is not from Cleveland at all. Sanders was born in Tyler, Texas. He spent his childhood with his father, Deion Sanders, who played for the Dallas Cowboys back then.

Sanders also played college football at Jackson State and Colorado before being drafted in 2025 by the Browns.

According to the X post, the young QB also went on to give a few interesting answers. When asked about his favorite meal, he said "work," and when asked about his zodiac sign, he said "money."

Soon after, the fan reactions started flowing in the comment section of the posted clip.

Fans react to Shedeur Sanders' Cleveland claim

Fans jumped in quickly, some joking, some genuinely hyping, defending Sanders' character and cheering his growing bond with the city that just drafted him.

"Nah, he has a good heart; shame NFL is scripted," said a fan.

Fans defended Sanders given the troubled first season of his career and the subsequent drop of his draft stock.

"Build the statue, LeBron ain't ever even say that, "another said, praising him.

Another fan spoke about how this spoke to the simple image Sanders had created for himself.

"That boy clean," read another reaction.

Another fan chose to focus on the quarterback's physique as Browns training camp is scheduled to begin in two days, on July 28.

"He looks leaner, "the user commented.

For some, this comment was good enough to further instil their faith in the QB for next year.

"That's my quarterback," was another reaction.

Whether it was a joke or a sign of growing roots, Sanders' one-liner struck a chord with Browns fans.

Now, with training camp around the corner, Cleveland will be hoping his connection to the city starts showing up on Sundays just as much as it does in viral clips.
