Falcons Fans Raise Concerns Against Tua Tagovailoa Signing
After the 2025 season, Tua Tagovailoa was released by the Miami Dolphins as the team's quarterback. But he didn't stay jobless for much time.
The Atlanta Falcons have signed the former Miami quarterback as their QB for the 2026 NFL season. While no official figures have been made public yet, the NFL has confirmed the signing.
Tagovailoa first made his NFL debut in 2020 after the Miami Dolphins drafted him as the 5th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After a good 5 years, he signed a four-year contract extension worth $212.4 million in new money with a potential upside of $221.4 million.
But after the 2025 season, the Dolphins decided to pull the plug on their time with Tua. The Falcons welcome him straight in, leaving their fans with questions about whether it is a good signing or not.
A healthy Tua Tagovailoa could have been very good.
In the 2023 season, he threw 4,624 passing yards, the most in the entire NFL that year. And then in 2024, he set a Miami Dolphins single-season record with 72.9% completion rate. But the 2025 season brought a dip in the performance of the now-Falcons' QB.
In the 2025 season, Tagovailoa threw 20 TDs and 15 interceptions and had a 6-8 record as a starter before the team benched him. His health is one of the concerns raised by former NFL player Ryan Clarkas well. In an episode of First Take, he said:
"Man, cut the light off. … I know we keep talking about having two left-hand quarterbacks. Man, I don't care if they throw the ball with their forehead. You need them to be healthy." And the fans have the same frustration as well.
NFL Fans Not Happy With Tua Tagovailoa Signing
One fan said, "Chase Young might have 10 sacks against Atlanta this season😭😭" Maybe this was a dig at the former Dolphins QB about him getting sacked. He absorbed 30 sacks in the 2025-26 season.
"The Falcons officially lead the league in lefty QBs," a fan said in sarcasm.
And it is true. Both of the Falcons' QBs now, Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr., are left-handed, and they are the only team to have two of them.
"They could do the funniest thing and trade for Dillon Gabriel😭," a fan said because Gabriel is also a left-handed QB.
A fan wrote, "Atlanta Falcons coaches asked Tua Tagovailoa to stop throwing interceptions in practice and he looked at them like this." It had a picture of a confused man attached to it.
Tagovailoa had the second-most interceptions by a quarterback in 2025, with 15.
