Ex-NFL Star Lashes Out Against Browns for Fumbling Shedeur Sanders' Rookie Season

Former Browns player Jason McCourty weighed in on the QB situation in Cleveland.

According to the ex-NFL star, the Browns fumbled their QB position by trading away Flacco and Pickett, and it eventually affected Sanders.

"So now you're left with two rookie quarterbacks who, throughout the course of training camp, they were limited on reps... So I think the Browns have fumbled this entire quarterback situation all season long, and then Shedeur gets the brunt of that."

Once the Browns traded Flacco and Pickett, they had only two rookies for QB: Dillion Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The team took priority over the prior, and gave Sanders zero first-team practice reps for the first part of the season.

But that wasn't all. When Flacco was on the team, Gabriel had reps as a backup. However, when Sanders became a backup, he had no practice reps at all. It was evident when Sanders talked after the Ravens game.

"I don't think I played good at all. I think there's a lot of things we need to look at during the week and go and just get comfortable with even throwing routes with [wide receiver] Jerry [Jeudy] and throwing routes with all those guys."

Despite this, McCourty thinks Shedeur Sanders is setting himself up for success

The former Browns player also added in the interview that Sanders has handled himself well since he debuted. McCourty tagged all the good plays, mistakes like holding the ball too long, and interceptions, "part of the rookie process of playing the quarterback position."

"I don't know if Shedeur can do enough where Cleveland says we're going to punt on selecting any quarterbacks next year, and we're just going to run it back with Shedeur. But I will say so far, he's given himself an opportunity to compete for a starting job next year," he added.

There are reports that the Browns might go for another QB in the 2026 draft. They might even start with Desahun Watson while developing Sanders. What do you think would be the best?
