Ex-Browns Star Makes Major Career Decision as New 2-Year Deal Finalised

The Browns' offensive line is facing a major shakeup. Pro Bowl guard Wyatt Teller has officially made his career decision, signing a new two-year deal with an AFC rival. The move follows weeks of speculation about his future in Cleveland.
As per reports, the 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Houston Texans on Tuesday through free agency.
In an emotional note, he bid farewell to the franchise and the Browns fans.
“I wish things were different, and this is hard to put into words. When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me,” Teller shared on social media.
Teller was a popular name in trade discussions. The veteran, however, clarified that he wanted to remain with the Browns for the rest of his career. That changed in this off-season when he announced he would become a free agent.
“Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever. I’ve made friendships and connections on and off the field that will last far beyond the game of football. Our family is so blessed and grateful for everyone in Northeast Ohio who has supported and loved us these past seven years. While we are excited and look forward to what the future holds, Cleveland will always have a special place in our hearts. As always… Go Browns!”
In the 2025 season, Teller was deemed a top offensive guard. He joined the Browns in 2019 after he was traded from the Buffalo Bills and amped up the blocking game alongside veteran guard Joel Bitonio. Teller made three Pro Bowl selections and was named to the second All-Pro team twice.
He has made two play-off appearances in his career so far, in 2020 and 2023, with the Browns. And out of 101 games in his seven-year career, Teller started as an offensive guard 94 times for the Browns.
The Franchise Has Focused on Repairing the Offensive Unit This Entire Offseason
Teller's exit isn't a massive surprise. After starting 13 games this season, he found himself splitting reps with Teven Jenkins. And he acknowledged there was a need to improve. However, it looks like the team wanted to overhaul the O-line entirely.
With Teller’s exit and Bitonio’s silence on his retirement, the team lacks reliable guards. The management has roped in three new OL players: the former Texans tackle Tytus Howard and guards Zion Johnson and Elgton Jenkins.
As the unit is developing under the new head coach, Todd Monken, spectators are looking forward to better performances.
None of the existing and new players know who will become the new starting quarterback. Between Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, trade or draft picks, the Browns have yet to make a major decision.
