Ex-Browns QB Ditches Franchise for Divisional Rival for $11 Million

The Cleveland Browns have lost a key quarterback to a division rival. Tyler Huntley is heading to the Baltimore Ravens on a new deal, leaving a significant gap in the team's depth chart.
As per his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Huntley signed a deal on Saturday with a base value of $5 million, but it can go up to $11 million. He would now serve as franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson’s backup. After being dismissed by the Browns, Huntley landed on the Ravens' practice squad before signing his new contract.
In the 2025 season, Huntley replaced Cooper Rush, who struggled to perform in Jackson’s absence, who was out due to a hamstring injury. And Huntley, 28, left a mark after going 2-0 as a starter. He was crucial in winning over the Chicago Bears in Week 8 and the Green Bay Packers in Week 17.
He finished the last season with a 77.6 percent completion rate (52 out of 67 passes) for 426 yards, two touchdowns without being intercepted even once.
With Huntley’s exit, the Browns lose a mentor for 24-year-old Shedeur Sanders. Yes, the Browns technically still have a veteran in Deshaun Watson. But he played in only 19 games in the past four seasons.
And Just How Important Was Huntley for the Browns?
Watson does not share the same bond with Sanders that Huntley did. In a 2025 preseason media availability, Sanders stated that Huntley acted as a mentor and was grateful for him.
“I would say I’m thankful that Huntley here,” Sanders said during the preseason. “He gave me a perspective of a quarterback that I feel like I needed … I feel like God’s sent him here for a reason, honestly, just to talk and to be like a mentor towards me and his career, also.”
Huntley’s association with the Ravens comes just as their former offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, took up the head coach job at the Browns.
