Emotions High in NFL Community As Matthew Stafford Lifts First MVP in 17 Years

17 seasons, 239 regular-season games, and 5562 completed passes later, Matthew Stafford has finally laid his hands on the NFL's most coveted awards.

The NFL announced on February 5th that the Los Angeles Rams' QB, Matthew Stafford, is the Most Valuable Player for the 2025 season. The 37-year-old walked onto the stage with his 4 daughters to get the award.

"I just want to start saying thank you. I'm so humbled to be here tonight in front of so many great people, great players, coaches that make this league so special. Just to be in the same breath as you guys is an amazing feeling for me," he said.

The other finalists for the award were Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. The main competition seemed to be between Stafford and Maye, and the voting proved that.

Matthew Stafford had 366 points (24 first-place votes). Maye finished second with 361 points (23 first-place votes). The fans are divided over this, as many believe that the New England Patriots' quarterback should have won the award.

Popular Drake Maye fan that goes on social media as Drake Maye Lover posted on X, "I’ve lost all respect sorry this is absolutely rigged for money… Or ratings in not sure which. I won’t be silent . Just saw it live sry."

NFL Fans Left Divided Over Matthew Stafford Winning the MVP

Many have supported the Rams' QB in this matter. "He had an amazing season. Can’t complain," one fan commented while another said, "Happy to see Matt take the MVP, played great all season". It's not surprising considering Staffword had one of the best seasons in the NFL.

Matthew Stafford had a passer rating of 109.2 with 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 17 games in 2025. He led the NFL in touchdowns and passing yards, and that too with big margins.

A user commented, "Drake Maye was robbed." Another followed the same lines, saying, "Pity award. We all know it should have gone to Drake Maye". The frustration is justified since Maye only lost by one vote, which, as per ESPN journalist Courtney Cronin, went to Justin Herbert, who wasn't even a finalist.

One fan chose to be neutral, saying, "Maye had a terrific rookie year and it's a big deal to finish runner-up in year one, but Stafford had an even better year. Well deserved." Maye had a passer rating of 113.5 with 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 17 games in 2025. Who do you think should have won it?
