"Earn It": Jared Verse Already Taking Vocal Role at Browns After Major Trade
Jared Verse has not played a regular-season snap for the Cleveland Browns yet, but he is already making his presence felt.
According to a post shared by the Browns on X, Verse delivered a message to his teammates during mandatory minicamp.
"We can't get tired. We ain't got that luxury right. You're getting all that today. You will earn that month off," Verse said.
His comments showcased an early glimpse of his leadership role for Cleveland. The Browns acquired him when they traded cornerstone Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.
That transition has quickly put Verse in a position where his voice carries added importance, even before playing his first regular-season game for Cleveland.
The former Defensive Player of the Year left Cleveland as the franchise's all-time sack leader and set the team's single-season sack record.
But while Garrett led primarily through his play, Verse is willing to take a more vocal approach.
GM Andrew Berry recently revealed that the Browns had little interest in moving Garrett until the Rams included Verse in trade discussions.
"[The trade] wasn't something that we anticipated, certainly coming into this year or coming into the spring or quite honestly coming out of the draft," Berry said, as reported by ESPN.
The blockbuster deal brought Verse to Cleveland along with a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round selection.
As Verse is expected to play a major role for the Browns, some insiders believe his impact could extend beyond his production.
Browns Insiders Believe Verse Brings a Different Leadership Style
Before diving into that discussion, it is worth noting that leadership has become a major talking point since Garrett's departure.
In a recent episode of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot discussed how Verse's personality differs.
"I really do believe that Jared Verse is a unifier, a force multiplier, the kind of guy that brings guys together. I think he's so emotional, so gregarious, that I think he's going to be in addition to a vocal leader," Cabot said.
She suggested that Garrett was highly respected throughout the organization and connected with teammates differently.
"I've also been told that even though Myles was very well respected and in some cases revered, he wasn't necessarily loved by his teammates. He didn't necessarily inspire that warm and fuzzy, big, booming kind of love that some people have for their teammates," Cabot said.
None of that diminishes Garrett's achievements in Cleveland. He also developed himself as the NFL's most dominant pass rusher and leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
For now, the Browns are entering with Verse, Alex Wright, and Mason Graham helping the defensive front. Cleveland hopes a new voice and a new personality can help in reshaping the unit.
