Drake Maye Takes Just 3 Games to Shatter a Record That Took Tom Brady 41 Games

It takes a Patriot to beat a Patriot. Drake Maye proved it by overtaking Tom Brady’s playoff record. We’re not talking about touchdowns or passing yards.

In over two decades, Brady played 41 playoff games for the New England Patriots and recorded only 136 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Drake Maye has played 3 playoff games for the Patriots, and he has already passed Brady with 141 rushing yards.

It started with 66 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers during the Divisional Game on January 12th. Just a week later, he added 10 against the Houston Texans in the Divisional title. And on January 26th, Maye managed 65 yards against the Denver Broncos. But the rushing yards difference doesn’t end there.

Tom Brady rushed for 1,123 yards in his career, which spanned over 23 seasons. Drake Maye might soon take over that as well because the 23-year-old has recorded 871 yards in 2 seasons alone. What’s astonishing is that Maye’s average sits at 435.2 yards per season, which is higher than what the GOAT ever recorded in any of his 23 seasons.

But Brady was never a quarterback who rushed a lot; he was always a great thrower, and that’s what led him to 7 Super Bowls. Meanwhile, Maye is a dual-threat quarterback; he rushed 1209 yards for 16 touchdowns in his college career alone. During his three years at the North Carolina Tar Heels, Drake Maye managed 1,209 in total, averaging 4.0 per carry.

Despite this, there’s one thing Maye needs to put in the work on.

Drake Maye Still Has A Lot To Improve On

The Patriots quarterback made it to the Super Bowl for the first time, that too while playing as the starting quarterback in the NFL. But when you look at his performance, the 23-year-old still has a lot of ground to cover.

Maye has recorded 14 fumbles in the 2025 regular-season and playoffs combined. In the first three playoff games, he has lost 3 fumbles.

But then again, if we look at the positives, he has a passer rating of 113.5 with 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 17 games. This is only his second NFL season, and he is still 23 years old. Will he improve? Let us know in the comments!
