Drake Maye Shares Honest Feelings Over Shoulder Injury Ahead of Pre-Season Training
The New England Patriots are heading into their three-day voluntary offseason program, and quarterback Drake Maye is tagging along after a Super Bowl upset and his shoulder injury. On Wednesday, he spoke with Steve Reed of the Associated Press about the latest updates.
“Nothing, nothing, no problems at all,” Maye answered when asked about his shoulder.
In his statement, Maye also clarified that there was no need for surgery.
Sports writer Conor Ryan had initially reported that Maye injured his right shoulder while going for a 13-yard gain during the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos in January.
He added that the 23-year-old was removed from the injury report in the days leading up to Super Bowl LX.
“QB Drake Maye acknowledged that he received a pain-killing injection for his right throwing shoulder before Super Bowl LX,” Mike Reiss, news reporter, posted on X. “He made it clear he was "ready to go”; at the same time, this adds some context to what he was managing injury-wise.”

Eventually, the Patriots had a crushing 29-13 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX in February. Following this, the franchise was questioned for not revealing the extent of Maye’s shoulder injury earlier.
Before the team broke off for the offseason, Maye said that he needed some time and that time’s the best healer. He also promised to work hard to get back to the game and gain more wins. Now, the quarterback is ready for the upcoming year and has his team's back.
Drake Maye Stands Behind His Head Coach
In conversation with Reed, Maye also addressed the off-the-field discussions happening in the Patriots’ camp.
As reported by Fox News, head coach Mike Vrabel recently addressed public attention surrounding photos published by a media outlet of him and a longtime NFL reporter. Now, following the head coach's acknowledgement, Maye has made his feelings on the matter clear.
“I know he’s got the right mindset and I know he’s a great human being,” Maye spoke about his head coach. “I love playing for him.”
The Patriots already have their offseason calendar locked in for the coming months, with mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 15-17 before training camp arrives later in the summer.
OTAs and rookie minicamp will also run through May and early June, giving Drake Maye enough time to hopefully get his shoulder back to full strength before the 2026 season kicks into gear.
