"Doing Enough" - Deshaun Watson Makes His Case as Browns QB Situation Takes Shape

Deshaun Watson's recent performances have changed the conversation around the Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation.

Speaking on PFT, NFL analyst Chris Simms argued that Cleveland doesn't need to continue evaluating its quarterback situation and felt that Watson was doing as much as was needed from him:

“They shouldn't be [evaluating anything at quarterback]. [Deshaun Watson's] doing enough.”

Simms also pointed to Watson's recent improvement, saying the Browns QB has made throws that resemble “the old Deshaun Watson.” The quarterback has now helped Cleveland win consecutive games after its Week 1 defeat.

He delivered again against the Panthers, throwing two touchdown passes in the Browns' 21-18 comeback win over Carolina. The second came with 1:48 remaining and gave Cleveland the lead.

Watson's recent performances have therefore given him an opportunity to change the conversation around his future in Cleveland. He can strengthen his case further when the Browns face Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Browns Have More Than Just Watson Going for Them

Chris Simms also saw plenty of positives around Deshaun Watson in Cleveland.

He praised the Browns' defensive front and secondary, pointing to both units as key parts of the team's foundation. He also highlighted Harold Fannin Jr.'s development, suggesting the young tight end could eventually enter the league's upper tier at his position.

Simms also expressed support for Todd Monken, praising the Browns head coach's attitude and approach. He credited Cleveland for staying competitive against Carolina and making the crucial plays late to complete the comeback.
