Diego Pavia Fails to Learn from Shedeur Sanders' Mistake as CFB Star Shows Brash Personality
The 2025 draft did not go as Shedeur Sanders and his well-wishers thought. A big reason was his attitude, and now Diego Pavia is on the same path.
Pavia was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, but he lost it to Indiana's Fernando Mendoza. But what made the headlines was his behaviour afterwards.
The young QB chose himself when asked to choose between Lamar Jackson and Johnny Manziel as the best quarterback of all time. While QBs are supposed to be confident, Pavia went a bit further.
He posted a story on Instagram, captioned, "F*** all the voters," after losing to Mendoza. And it did not just end here. He was also partying in New York in front of a board that read 'F- Indiana'.
All of these behaviors have left a sour taste in many viewers' mouths, some even saying that he is worse than Shedeur Sanders. The Browns quarterback was predicted to be a first-round pick in the 2025 draft.
But before the draft, boldly declared that he was coming in to change the fortunes of whatever franchise drafted him. In the end, he slipped to the fifth round and was picked by the Browns as 144th overall.
Pavia's behaviour might take him down the same path, and he does not even have the same numbers as Shedeur Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders Had Better Numbers
The former Colorado QB walked into the 2025 draft with better numbers than what Diego Pavia will walk in with in 2026. Shedeur Sanders finished his college career with over 14,327 passing yards and 134 touchdown passes, while completing just over 70% of his throws.
He threw only 27 interceptions across his entire career, led Jackson State to its first two Celebration Bowl appearances, and then set records at Colorado in 2023 and 24. In recognition of his historic impact, Colorado retired his jersey number, an honor rarely given.

Diego, on the other hand, is not bad at all. Across his seasons at New Mexico State (2022–2023) and Vanderbilt (2024), Pavia recorded 741 completions on 1,194 attempts, resulting in a 62.1% completion percentage. He threw for 9,908 passing yards, averaging 8.3 yards per attempt, and recorded 86 touchdown passes with 27 interceptions.
Good numbers, but not better than the Browns QB. Shedeur Sanders’ top awards include Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Jerry Rice Award, and the Deacon Jones Award. Pavia’s résumé is led by being a Heisman Trophy finalist (2nd place), SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner.
