Are the Cleveland Browns receiving trade calls for their sophomore play-caller, Shedeur Sanders? Amidst the race between him and Deshaun Watson for a QB1, the training camp lying ahead, Sanders’ future remains more uncertain than ever before.

“If you were to trade him, and it was a situation where he didn’t ask to be traded, or the Sanders family didn’t say, get me out of here, if you were just to trade him,” Dan Labbe said in a conversation with Mary Kay Cabot, as per Essentially Sports.

The Browns writer weighed in on how this trade would affect the team, and he believes it would leave the team in a precarious position. The front office has already traded defensive end Myles Garrett in a blockbuster deal. However, Labbe believes the Browns would not benefit from this trade. 

“I mean, we’ve seen Andrew Berry do this before, so maybe it wouldn’t be all that surprising, but you would be leaving yourself a little bit thin there at that position, considering that Deshaun Watson is coming off, getting the same Achilles repaired twice, had major shoulder surgery.

Labbe’s concerns stem from Watson’s recent return. The 30-year-old quarterback hurt his Achilles injury in October 2024 and re-ruptured it last season. He hadn’t played since. This return is his comeback in this final season of his contract with the Browns. 

Watson had signed a five-year contract worth $230 million with the Browns. In the past four years, he played in just 19 games. Even before his injury, the QB never appeared in every game of a season.

“You don’t even know if Deshaun Watson can play for a month, let alone a full season, and then you’d be leaving yourself with some combination of Dillon Gabriel, Taylen Green, and maybe you add another quarterback to your practice squad or something like that. You’d really be leaving yourself thin there,” he said in the Orange and Brown podcast.

While Labbe believes that keeping Sanders is the way to go, there are reports that suggest otherwise.

The Cleveland Browns are not opposed to trading Shedeur Sanders

As the Cleveland Browns carry on with four quarterbacks in the training camp, Shedeur Sanders could be on his way out. Browns expert Mary Kay Cabot reported that the Browns are weighing in all their options. 

“It doesn’t mean the Browns have ruled out trading Sanders at the end of camp,” she wrote for Cleveland.com. “One need only look at the Myles Garrett trade to see that almost no one is completely off limits.” 

According to Cleveland Browns on Sports Illustrated, she also reported that both quarterbacks are still locked in the competition for the starting position this season. Head coach Todd Monken has even stated that he has two starters, given their performances.
