Deshaun Watson Trolled By NFL Fans After Poor Training Camp Performance

Deshaun Watson's bid to reclaim the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job got off to a rough start on Wednesday's training camp, and NFL fans did not take long to pile on.

Watson threw back-to-back interceptions during team drills on Wednesday, raising fresh questions about his form as the Browns' quarterback competition begins to heat up.

"Deshaun Watson was just picked off on back-to-back throws, first by Denzel Ward and then by new CB Damarri Mathis," ESPN NFL analyst Daniel Oyefusi wrote on X.

The rough outing quickly became a talking point in an episode of Cleveland.com's Orange and Brown Talk podcast, where the hosts didn't mince words about Watson's performance.

"Deshaun Watson was not very good," host Dan Labbe said.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot added that the timing made the mistakes even more damaging, especially given Watson's current standing with the fanbase.

"You don't really necessarily want to be doing that. You want to come back from a mistake with a strong play, with a big play. You don't want to have back-to-back interceptions on the first day of Browns training camp. It's just not a good look, especially for a player who really just doesn't have the fan sentiment behind him," Cabot said.

While it was only the first practice of training camp, Watson's struggles came as Shedeur Sanders reportedly put together a cleaner stretch during his own reps.

Although the two quarterbacks worked against different defensive units, the contrast in performances added more to an already closely watched competition.

Those early interceptions also carried extra weight because Browns head coach Todd Monken has previously emphasized limiting turnovers during practice, particularly in non-contact sessions where quarterbacks are expected to protect the football.

With Watson's performance becoming one of the biggest talking points from Day One, NFL fans straight up got to sharing their reactions online.

NFL fans roast Deshaun Watson after rough opening day at Browns training camp

After ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi posted Watson's training camp struggles on X, NFL fans flooded the replies with their reactions.

One fan sarcastically joked that Cleveland should reward Watson despite the disappointing performance.

"Resign Watson immediately. It's just the Cleveland sports way (laughing emoji)."

Another mocked the quarterback for throwing consecutive interceptions.

"Guess Watson just discovered the phrase 'two for the price of one' in a very literal way."

Some fans pointed to Watson's injury-plagued recent seasons while questioning whether anyone should still be surprised by outings like this.

"Are we surprised (laughing emoji) Deshaun hasn't been good in 6 years."

The comment appeared to reference Watson's lack of playing time over the past several seasons because of injuries and suspensions.

Another fan suggested the interceptions were simply in line with what they have come to expect.

"Im used to him doing that lol"

One more fan, on a similar note, felt Watson's rust should hardly come as a surprise after spending so little time on the field in recent years.

"You mean a guy that hasn't played football in years looks like a guy who hasn't played football in years? Color me shocked"

While one practice won't define Watson's season or the Browns' quarterback competition, his shaky start gave fans plenty to talk about.
