Deshaun Watson Takes Heat From NFL Fans After Being Put Over Shedeur Sanders

A debate over the Cleveland Browns' quarterback spot is sparking backlash. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer backed Deshaun Watson over Shedeur Sanders in a radio interview, and NFL fans were quick to disagree with the assessment.
On Tuesday via an X post, The Dawgs brought up the points made by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer on the Browns quarterback crisis. He stated that, based on previous performances, Watson will fare better than Sanders.
“There is so much demonstrated evidence of Deshaun Watson being a really good NFL quarterback, and we have none on Shedeur,” Breer told Nick Wilson and Jonathan Peterlin, hosts of 92.3 Afternoon Drive.
In the show, Breer compared the two quarterbacks and their performance to say that Watson could land the starter job. Ever since head coach Todd Monken stated that both players are involved in an “open competition” to earn the position, many have weighed in on who would eventually win.
However, Breer gave Sanders only a 30% chance to win in Week 1 once the season begins in September.
Fans didn't agree with Shedeur Sanders' evaluation
One fan wrote that Watson, 30, was a commendable player, but the 24-year-old Sanders should have the edge.
“Seven years ago, enough with the ** and all the QB comparisons. You guys have Shedeur derangement syndrome (SDS). Shedeur will be the starter. I don’t think DW has the stamina to make it out of boot camp Monken’s way,” the comment read.
Watson was traded from the Houston Texans in 2022 after he displayed an incredible performance with his career best being 33 touchdowns for 4,823 yards.
Since then, however, he has appeared in only 19 games, limited because of two torn ACLs. Which is why two fans vehemently disagreed with Breer’s analysis.
“I'm confused about what you think you will get with DeShawn. Can someone please tell me? His ankles are shot, and I know it's the Achilles, but he ain't super accurate anyway. 12 is a wayyyyyy better passer,” wrote another.
Sanders played mid-season after a series of setbacks. Since playing against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, he ended the year with seven touchdowns, 10 interceptions for 1,400 yards.
And another fan claimed that Watson, who is gearing up to make his comeback, is past his prime. “This is so f***** dumb. DW hasn’t been good for years, and likely will never be again. Shedeur at least has a CHANCE," they commented.
Yet who do you think will perform better once the 2026 NFL season starts later this year? Let us know in the comments.
